TV: what have you been watching?
I think The Walking Dead may be the best drama thats currently airing/in production.
There, I said it.
Have been binging Only murders in the building. I think the plots are quite entertaining and the chemistry between the trio is fantastic (specially Martin Short and Steve Martin). The first season was better than the second, but both were enjoyable. I am a third of the way through the third season and it definitely started strong. Meryl Streep is such a great actress.
Dept. Q showed up on my radar because of this thread. I'm hooked after the first episode.
Lee Pace has such a presence. Rare you see such acting chops with someone so good looking. Had no idea there was a second season of Foundation out yet...very cool. The actress playing Empires's robot is my MVP of the show. She's great.
Season 3 of Foundation is on Apple now. Really good. They have a great villain called The Mule.
Someone posted an episode of The Dick Van Dyke show here a while back and I decided to watch it because I never really had. All or most of the episodes are on youtube and I'm about 20 deep now. The cast is as good as it gets, and it deserves its classic status for many other reasons. I think it was probably a big influence on some of the writers of the Simpsons golden years

This book just came out. I haven't read it but did buy it for a friend's birthday and spent a while flipping through it at the store. Lots of cool stuff in there.
Btw, have you seen this interview with John Swartzwelder? Probably shared it before but whatever.
Alien Earth is surprisingly good. I liked the trillionaire kid. The red haired girl looks like a hybrid of Molly Ringwald & Anthony Michael Hall from Breakfast Club.
These week was peak IASIP.
A+
Rewatching Slow Horses in preparation for season 5.
Also watched Professor T who is a quirky (to say the least) criminology inspector who assists the police in solving cases.

Now watching 30 Rock. In one episode, Carrie Fisher plays a washed up comedy writer who's selling her autobiography.
She tells Tina Fey that she was married to a gay guy for a couple years, so I looked to see if her fictional character mirrored her real life. Yup.
I'm loving 30 Rock.

For the last couple of weeks I have been watching a couple of episodes each day of They Call Me Fitz on Amazon Prime. I had never heard of it before but its older (started in 2010) and has 4 seasons
It stars Jason Priestly as a degenerate Used Car salesman, This show is absolutely hilarious an knows no bounds when it come to raunchy degeneracy and foul language. The "insult" dialog makes me laugh hard a few times each episode. This show predates "woke" and probably got cancelled once that became more of a force.
Anyone seen Mrs Davis? Im two episodes in, but I can't make head nor tail of it. It's only cos the great Betty Gilpin is the lead I'm persisting really (and I heard it was great).
We watched the first few episodes and enjoyed it. But I never gone back to it. I've been meaning to. It's quite entertainingly strange.
I've been stuck at home sick for the last month. Thankfully I'm returning to work next week. I've been busy watching shows and movies.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - An anime where the story picks up after a group of heroes saves the world. Among them is an Elf named Frieren who doesn't have a good grasp on humanity and the delicate timeline of their lives. decades are a blink of an eye for an Elf, but for humans and dwarves an entire lifetime can pass by. When Frieren's friends start to pass away, she vows to take her time and learn to appreciate the shorter lifespans of humans and the people around her. It's a beautiful story and deeply emotional. She takes on an apprentice mage and later on they recruit a young man to be their tank/warrior. They go on adventures and in a way, walk in the foot steps of her previous hero party, but this time she takes the time to learn more about her party and the towns they visit.
Solo Leveling: Super fun action anime about a low level kid who stumbles upon a secret leveling system only available to him. In this story, monsters attack earth and man made weapons are useless against them. Select people in the world are born as hunters that contain special powers/magic/abilities that can combat the monsters that threaten the world. The main character is shamefully referred to as the most useless hunter in existence but thanks to the leveling system that's unlocked to him, he gets stronger.
The Walking Dead: Watched the first 3 seasons so far, a few episodes into season 4. Man I cannot stand the Andrea character. Otherwise I'm having a pretty good time watching the antics of this group, the in-fighting and fighting off the bad humans outside of the group. The Governor is a MFer, I can't stand him. Big fan of Mishonne and Daryl.
As a child I was very into the horror genre and I remembered recently when I was about 10 - 12 years old watching a review of the 10 best Twilight Zone episodes, and from that they talked about an episode named "A Game of Pool". I had already known about the show at that age because my father used to bring it up a lot and tell me about Rod Serling being the host
It's got a dark and smokey vibe to it, and both the actors are really good. The episode touches on the cost of what it means to be "the best" at something - which I feel for myself now as a poker player strongly resonates. Watching it all these years later I still empathize strongly with the main character Jesse.
I think all serious poker players should watch it, at least once

Jack Klugman on the right...is that Jonathan Winters on the left?
Would love another season of ITYSL, but I'll take it.
2009 documentary about Kit Williams, author of the treasure hunt book Masquerade.
Mrs Davis was a delight, but the plot was all over the place.... but it did resolve well.
Going into Alien: Earth. 2 episodes in, it's a banger.
Rewatching LOTR: Rings of Power S1 and appreciate it a lot more a second time around. There are a lot of things I missed the first time around. Like I don't know how I missed it but The Harfoots have a tradition where they remember and tell stories of their people who have passed on. When they tell the story of Poppy's family meeting their end, her face fights back tears and it's not even stated that it's her family, but it's very clear from her reaction. Knowing that pain she carries makes me root for her even more. No idea how I missed that the first time around, but it's a dense show. I also appreciate the writing. This bit from Galadriel struck me.
It darkens the heart to call dark deeds, good. It gives place for evil to thrive inside us. Every war is fought both without and within. Of that every soldier must be mindful. Even I. Even you.
Sterlin Harjo (Reservation Dogs showrunner) launched a new show called The Lowdown starring Ethan Hawke. He plays a journalist in Oklahoma who owns a bookstore, is flat broke, has a child, and is barely scraping by. It's got a Big Lebowski feel to it along with some hilarious Oklahoma charm. There are some notable names in the cast: Tim Blake Nelson, Keith David, Tracy Letts, Jeanne Triplehorn, Kyle McClaughlin, and some character actors like Macon Blair, Kaniehtiio Horn, and Cody Lightning. There are two episodes available at the moment (Hulu/Disney+), I believe there will be 8 in total.
Broken YouTube Linklooking back on Andor....what a miracle of a show. There's no reason why a Star Wars show should be that adult, that important. Just spectacular.
Invasion on Apple TV got off to a wonderful start. But season three reminds me of the later seasons of walking dead. Poor writing weird acting imo. Good news it led me to “Foundation” and it’s much better.
I finished Dune Prophecy this week. Looked great, acted great, but story not that engaging and there's a ridiculous amount of connectivity to the original novel/movies that just wouldn't really be there 10,000 years before.
Bit of a slog.
