Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has submitted a request for a pardon to the country's President Isaac Herzog.
The president's office said Herzog would receive opinions from justice officials before considering the "extraordinary request which carries with it significant implications".
Netanyahu has been standing trial for the past five years on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in connection with three separate cases. He denies any wrongdoing.
He said in a video message that he would have preferred to see the process to the end, but national interest "demanded otherwise".
Early this month, US President Donald Trump urged Herzog to "fully pardon" the Netanyahu.
At the time, Herzog made it clear that anyone seeking a pardon had to submit a formal request.
On Sunday, his office released the request and a letter by Netanyahu himself, in light of "the importance of this extraordinary request and its implications".

It didn't happen; or if it did happen and there are photos or eye witnesses then they're fake and lying; or if they're not fake and lying and the IDF admit to it then the victims were terrorists; or if they were children and weren't terrorists then the Palestinians are just using them for the resistance.

Hezbollah/IRGC are as weak as they are ever going to be. The more time you give them, the more they are going to rebuild. A "normality" that involves thousands of Hezbollah rockets at the border pointed at Israel isn't one Netanyahu seems inclined to go back to.
As I have said before, Israel seems inclined to work politically with the entities that are willing (Sunni Gulf states). But at some point when someone keeps telling you who they are and what they are about you have to take them at their word.
And Netanyahu doesn't seem to believe there is any political solution with Hezbollah. Either them or Israel has to go. And if Israel doesn't take care of things now, time is on Hezbollah's side.
Well, it was fairly normal for that part of the world at that time. And it is still fairly normal in many parts of the world today. In the last year Pakistan displaced around 2 million ethnic Afghanis, bulldozing entire cities, and telling them to high tail it back to Afghanistan. Similar things are happening in Africa, with tremendous levels of violence.
The truth is, there was much more ethnic cleansing the other way around in the ME during those times. Jews were mostly the victims. There are significantly more Arab Muslims in Israel and the Palestine territories today than in 1967 (or 1948). Meanwhile, Jews have been completely ethnically cleansed from most of their historic communities.
If anything, the only abnormal thing about 1967 was how much more compassionate and tolerant Israeli Jews were (and still are) compared to their Arab neighbors.
