President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

I dunno what you searched but it was obv bullshit.

and they put the guy in jail who exposed this stuff.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your linked article also confirmed exactly what I said

you can pull over an 18 wheeler which is confined to a road network - you can't do that for a boat that is faster than anything the coast guard has

It's not that difficult to track the boats to their destination and helicopters are much faster than speed boats.

I think this is just wagging the dog in an effort to gain control of Venezuelan petrol resources.

oh yeah i think this is definitely part of a broader picture given how much we've mobilized forces off their coast

by POGcrazy94

This is cringe as ****, you've given Trump his lollipop now can you get on with the ****ing draw please

Crowd going wild though! So pumped Trump's getting a participation trophy.

no not really. but libs ghana lib.

Feel free to tell me what you think "the kill chain" means

Its also appropriate to point out that using whataboutisms for Obama like I supported Obama drone striking grandmas isn't an effective tactic

Like yeah, if Obama was bad then this is somehow worse

There was a presumption that anyone killed around an assassination target was a valid target, and a presumption that the metadata they were using to conduct the strikes was actually accurate.

It definitely seems like the drone program sucked. If that’s the case, how much worse was it when Trump came on board and increased the program 10x?

I was just pointing out that the people in charge of the USA have always thought that bombing semi-random targets with massive collateral damage was actually "productive", or at least productive enough to do it consistently.

anyway, it sounds like we pretty much agree that this is all about optics. the anti-Trumpers are fine with mass murder, they just dont want to see it.

Support? I dunno. They could just do it and not tell everyone. You realize we don't actually need to know this stuff is going on

i'm for 100% legalization of all drugs - that would eliminate a lot of the issues inherent with them and make them more of a medical problem only (like with prescription pills)

For several reasons, I don't think a one-size fits all solution is going to work for making drugs legal/illegal. First, the cost benefit analysis to society varies significantly by drug. Second, I don't even know what it would mean to make, say, fentanyl legal. Does that mean that you would be able to walk into a licensed dispensary and just buy fentanyl at the same time you were buying weed gummies. And if we are going to make fentanyl (which is legal to prescribe in the United States right now and legal to possess if prescribed) effectively an over-the-counter purchase, is the idea that we would make all pharmaceuticals available for purchase OTC?

by rickroll

pretend it's not people and real lives but a strategy game and you're tasked with preventing the flow of drugs - this would probably be one of the options employed by most of the players

This is an exceedingly poor way to think about the issue. If I pretended that no people would be affected, then I might conclude that flooding New York City with toxic nerve gas would be the best way to control the rat population, which of course would prove nothing about whether flooding NYC with toxic nerve gas was a good idea in the real world.

I just got assassinated by the CIA

Victor,

If you could live in any country in the world and maintain approximately your same standard of living, what country would you choose?

see, this is an example of "whataboutism".

by Victor

see, this is an example of "whataboutism".

Not at all.

I was just wondering, from the perspective of defending the actions of the government, which country you would be the most proud (or least unproud) to call home. For the reasons I've already stated, I believe that the bombings of these boats is indefensible no matter what anyone's answer to that question is. It's an unrelated question.

Incorrect.

Oh dear...

At least a dozen of the people Trump has granted clemency to since 2016 were arrested for separate crimes after January 6.

Edward Kelley, one of the first rioters to breach the US Capitol, was sentenced to life in prison for plotting to attack an FBI officer and assassinate law enforcement officers who investigated his actions on January 6. Daniel Ball was accused of throwing an explosive device into the Lower West Terrace tunnel on January 6, which reportedly disoriented police officers and caused hearing loss. After the pardon, he was arrested on federal gun charges because prosecutors argued that his convictions, including domestic violence battery by strangulation and resisting law enforcement, legally prohibited him from possessing firearms.

David Daniel pleaded guilty to assaulting or resisting a police officer on January 6. He was arrested in September 2024 with possession of child pornography and sexual exploitation of a minor. He is now seeking a second pardon, using the argument successfully made by another rioter that he should be re-pardoned because the evidence in the other crime was discovered during an FBI search concerning the Capitol attack, Politico reported.

Theodore Middendorf pleaded guilty to destruction of government property on January 6. He was sentenced in 2024 to 19 years in prison for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old and remains in prison, according to National Public Radio.

Lol no it isn't.

by Trolly McTrollson

Incorrect.

right, I forgot. whataboutism is pointing out how depraved and murderous the Dems or the USA is.

Trump getting his fifa peace medal really came across as let's give the 3 year old a participation medal so he doesn't tantrum and make a scene.

That cockwomble is thicker than a rhino's foreskin.

this has been a decade long issue that we've been losing - those boats are faster than anything on the coast guardonly way to stop the drugs from getting ashore with non lethality is to dispatch a helicopter with a sniper onboard who puts a 50 caliber into the engine block - then they jettison the cargo and it floats away by the time a coast guard boat catches up and then it's

Ok so given your cost-benefit analysis, you not only are ok with, but actively support, state-sanctioned murder of people that might or might not be criminals. Gotcha.

There's a lesson in history, you know, that a people that live in a place where state-sanctioned murder happens and who are ok with it and don't resist it might come to regret they were ok with it going on. But you do you.

You guys really worry too much.
I've been told the targets were vetted with the same high end process used by ICE.

drugs have been fully legal for far more of human history than they've been illegal - things were fine

this includes the usa too where we really didn't outlaw any drugs until 1909 at the earliest and didn't enforce it with gusto until post wwii

opiates and stimulants like cocaine were over the counter in the past, we had opium dens in cities like sf and nyc until until the 1950s - society was fine

But

there's not a shred of evidence that any of those boats were not running drugs - they are batting a thousand

same way it was never controversial in the past decades with all the thousands of boats they disabled with 50 caliber rounds

by rickroll

there's not a shred of evidence that any of those boats were not running drugs

So you're confirming murder of criminals is ok with you when they pose no imminent threat. Gotcha.

by diebitter

i never said such a thing

i'm saying that everything they've tried over the last umpteenth decades has failed

so they are doing the reasonable thing of trying something new

that doesn't mean that i agree with what nor how it is being done nor even agree that drugs should be illegal in the first place

but you dont seem to condone it either.
imo its a no brainer it should be discard because its too easy for government to use any other kind of reasons to abuse "killing power" like some already pointed it out.
Just look how trump uses garbage reasons to invoke emergency power to do w.e he pleases...

governments love putting regulations but if their is an entity that should be the most regulated and controlled is for sure those that have huge power aka governments themselves.
