This gave me a very good chuckle and I figured the gman would also appreciate it 😀

Also very much looking forward to reading this

That cat looks about 2 minutes from going ham on that book.

Really nice to see that toy manufacturer honored all three Navies and both Marine Corps. Bummer they forgot second Army, though.

was kind of disappointed they didn't throw in a good ole happy 250 for air force as well 😀

Heard back from Sabr. Unfortunately, things seem to be going about the same for him.

I'm very sorry to hear that. What can we do to help?

I believe he would like to run better on the felt

anyone else have a parent/close relative with Alzheimer's?

my mother has gone from almost perfectly normal to advanced dementia in 3 months after what they call a 'Delirium event'. She now will barely eat or drink, has zero interest in the outside world and basically sits in a chair all day sleeping or staring into space. Hospitalized at the moment for a poop reason to grim to talk about.

Am managing my father around the fact that he can't care for her at home and trying to work through care home facilities, prices etc. OMFG, the money those places cost and tbh with her potential quality of life from here on in, it becomes a grim prospect...one way or another

we've got a way to go and I'm gonna end up caring for my father before too long, but it's already made me think seriously about planning for my old age (If i get there)

Yikes, sorry to hear Feely.

My wife and I have planned as much as possible for our deaths so we don't offload too much work onto the children. Already have our burial plots picked out, funeral arrangements, a known folder with important information, etc. Heck, I've already written my obituary (cuz of course I have). As someone who was the executor for my parents estate (which was quite an effort thanks to my Dad's businesses), any planning done beforehand will I'm sure be welcome by next-of-kin.

But not really sure how we're actually going to approach old age ourselves. Prolly just wing it and roll with the punches.

Hey Feely - sorry to hear you are going through it. Alzheimer’s is a brutal disease.

I think I posted about my experience a little a few years ago.

My father in law has it and it’s very tough. We were going to have him move in with us, most of the care would’ve fallen on me since I work from home. Ultimately we decided on a memory care facility as it was just too much for us to handle.

My grandma on my dad’s side had Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. I only mention because last week my dad expressed he has concerns about his memory failing, but has been hiding it for 2 years because he didn’t want to bring more to the table with my mom / his wife battling cancer.

Feely-I’m sorry man, you have a hard road on this one-I have posted in here about this-do what it takes to convince your father he needs help to care for your mother. He CANNOT do it alone-it’s just too much when you mix care needs with the emotional hardships he will experience (his life partner will not know him) and you will lose them both.

I don’t want to go too deep into my personal experience publicly here, but reach out and I will try to answer any questions you have

Alzheimer’s sucks for everyone affected, for the afflicted and for everyone that loves them

Yes, thank you and I’m sorry about what you’ve been through. I think I’m appreciating now that he won’t be able to do it. I live very close to them and am trying to help but I’m also a ft single parent these days. Tough for my dad because as I said, it came on incredibly fast which it doesn’t normally

He wants to give it one more go with carers coming in to help but I think it’s inevitable. He just has so much guilt but also still I think has some hope somehow that she might recover.

Looking at how they define dementia she’s already at level 5 on a 7 level scale but has some level 6 issues as well.

The money though here is unbelievable. It’s about $200 a day but then you also have to find at least a $500k ‘deposit’ that they hold onto in case she’s still alive when the rest of his money runs out. I say at least because the best place round here has a $1m deposit! It’s insane.

It’s pretty from all round when you think about them going through all their money to keep her alive when she’s depressed, barely communicative and incontinent

How’s your FIL doing since he moved into his facility? Guessing better but is he ‘happy’ there?

I’ll have to complain about my mother again. Won a $3900 pot today. Might be my biggest ever

Open 30 from cut off with AA. Button raises 120. SB flats. 1 go 480, button shoves 1400, SB tank tank calls 1200, I call 1300

Button has KK and SB has…89hh!

Flop was 10 7 2 but fortunately stayed clean

Jesus, you’ve got a lot going on - I thought my situation was bad with my mom and my ex wife being a total disaster. It really makes you think about all their implications of living a long life

The facility is good in that he is having his needs met and getting constant attention for eating, bathing and bathroom needs. As of a year or so ago, he became wheelchair bound after having a bunch of falls.

Happy - that’s probably hard to answer but on the margin I’d say no. But honestly, I don’t think there is a better option within the price range we can afford.

My situation isn’t better or worse than yours. Once you get past a certain age, you realize everyone has tough **** going on.

Hopefully not too dark or out of line, but if I ever get diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I don’t want to be around to experience it once it starts taking hold.

I may play a few more times this year. Added up my 2025:
Time: -525
Poker: +1013 (-1200 the last 2 sessions)
Profit: +488
Hours: 45.5 ($10.73 hourly, wheeee!)

Should I go pro? Should I start an AMA?

An excellent Thursday boosted my hourly to $29! Yay me.

Read the time as hours played instead of rake paid at first, and was super impressed with a session that could triple your hourly over 525 hours.

Still pretty impressive that it could do that over 50-ish. Congrats on a nice hit.

Shortterm swongs sure are silly. After tying my record with 5 straight losing sessions, in my last 4 sessions I've won back 2x what I lost (including booking my biggest win in over 1.5 years). If I run ~nothorrible over my last half month I actually have an outside shot at posting a ~normal year, something I thought I had no chance at.

I had a dream that a friend knowingly brought me to a dirty game. They set me up and then gave me a chance to recoup losses with 250k (lol) plo flips. I lost 10 in a row.

Then Andrew Robl (I guess he was at the game) confirmed the game was fixed and after a few death threats, my debt was forgiven.

random: I remember watching a video (many years ago) about Andrew Robl and he dared his friend to drink a bottle of soy sauce (yes an entire bottle) while dining at an asian restaurant with 2 friends, and the dare payment was for $100. I believe the guy finished it and then ran to the bathroom.

Joining the parental care brigade. No mental issues so far , but between my folks and the in-laws we've had hospitalizations for cancer, broken hip, and open heart surgery within the last few months, and another going in for imaging next week. Sucks.

My heart goes out to those dealing with dementia. I can't even imagine.

On the plus side, I have wifi in my home office again. It had been dropping and resetting often, and then it got to the point where the resets failed. Embarrassed that it took me so long to take it downstairs and test the wifi there, but in my defense I'd tried it at the beginning of the issues and it hadn't helped.

In the opposite of my defense, I think that's because I forgot to turn off "connect automatically" to the repeater.

Anyway, it finally became obvious that the repeater was the problem. New one finally arrived. Amazon's a little slammed this time of year. Now back upstairs, instead of internetting at the kitchen table.

sorry about all your stuff mate. doesn't sound great at all

dealing with my still well father has been the worst part for me. It's grim and really sad and very sudden, but I've kind of come to terms with my mother. But trying to manage my heart broken father and seeing the stress impact on him has been brutal.

the medical advice is that she's not well enough to come home, so I'm checking out care homes for her and trying to talk him into putting her into one while also looking into the finances etc. but the guilt he feels is gigantic and not helped when he goes to hospital and sees my mum and she's telling him she wants to go home! Trying to gently prod him into agreeing to a care home but seeing him deflect and put the decision off etc is one of the most sensitive things I've had to do and seeing him cry the other day for the first time in my life wasn't fun
