One of my friends in college had about 1,000 LPs (just the ones he brought to school). I heard a wide variety of music in his room as we'd just play random albums. But we made sure to listen to Jimmy Cliff at least a couple times a month.

Damn love me some Jimmy Cliff. RIP.

RIP

yes, The Harder They Come soundtrack is amazing.

Sitting in limbo is my favorite by him too. Love Jerry’s cover of it as well.

Funny (Is it?) The Harder They Come story. I'm maybe 19 or 20, hippy looking white boy in mid-town Phoenix, Az. I go to my local (not Blockbuster) video tape rental location, and ask if they have The Harder They Come on VHS. They directed me to the curtained 'back room' with titles like Caught from Behind, Debbie Does Dallas, Shaving Ryan's Privates, etc. I guess they had never heard of Jimmy Cliff.

Now even in the age of streaming availability, I still have never seen the movie (which I'm told isn't all that great)

Am happy to say I was able to see him at least twice in concert at festivals around the West. RIPower Jimmy

let me make it easy for you az

by no means a cinematic classic, but always interesting to watch the culture behind the music

Man that is so sick. I never got to see Jerry. JGB is so damn good. Been listening to a lot of their β€˜78-β€˜80 shows. Elite.

Just looked up the setlists on JerryGarcia.com. Neither Garcia iteration did Limbo, but I bet Jimmy Cliff did.

Bela sat in with G/G on Sunday. My only Jerry Ripple. IYKYK

sill me didn't post the video

Steve the Colonel Cropper :(

Broken YouTube Link

A good portion of the greatest music recorded came out of Stax. One of the best house bands - Booker T. & the M. G.’s.

I’m gutted.

the last half century of popular music as understood by current humanity playlist i'll go rhythming has been shipped, shaped, and mono-cultured in many reproductive ways by string kernels from this particularly adored Steve Cropper run stax error

scroll through his book of key colaborators then close your eyes and try even imaging each with only one degree of influential grief

let's not forget about this scene

LAPD is reporting that 2 people were found dead at Rob Reiner's house. The ages of the 2 match Rob and his wife. It's not official yet but apparently some sites are reporting that it's them.

Doesn’t sound great.

Stand by me is my favorite Stephen King adaptation. Easily one of my favorite movies.

"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"

Nope. Those are still my best friends--at least the survivors.

RIP Meathead.

It's being reported as a homicide, but they haven't named the victims. Most likely is Rob and wife.

Pretty horrific along with a couple mass murders today.

confirmed Reiner and his wife dead by knife wounds...primary suspect is their son, Nick, who has a history of drug abuse.

So awful. One of the greats of American film/culture. Just an impressive, kind man. RIP

Ugh, that is terrible. He was 78 years old, so nearing the end of his lifespan, but what an awful occurrence, but even moreso if it was his son who did it. He did just release a "Spinal Tap" sequel earlier this year which I haven't managed to see yet. Looks like that's on my to do list.
