Mini-Walrus

I don't know who invented Walrus. IBD gave it CPR recently.

Feed me good music to win.

Love wet leg. That was my most played song this year according to lastfm

Can't say I really felt this, but unlike the first four songs, it didn't have a part that wanted me to turn it off prematurely.

IBD submits We Lost The Sea - The Gloaming

Same! But it was from 2025, so that was good enough for me 👍

If you like Chaise Longue, you should give the top two songs a listen.

All I know of Wet Leg is the singer performs in her underwear and she went to college and got the big d.

If I don't wake up too late tomorrow, I'll reveal the last category.

Okay, I have time. Let's finish this.

5) A song with a weird title

IBD regretted this category choice, but the quality of submissions was largely decent. Certainly a lot better than the 2025 category.

In 8th place (2 points):

This has a lot of elements of a good song, but every time the singer screams, I recoil. She should not do that; it doesn't work.

Also the outro should not be over a third of the song.

Ferenc submits Shilpa Ray - Johnny Thunders Fantasy Space Camp

In 7th place (3 points):

This doesn't deserve the anti-podium, but someone has to get it.

It's catchy enough, but ironically all the tempo changes left me kinda bored. I don't really know why, but I just feel like it should grab me more, and it doesn't.

It's still decent though, but there were a lot of decent songs.

Eric submits The Monkees - Randy Scouse Git

In 6th place (4 points):

Another nostalgia submission in a different category.

This certainly fits the category better than any other song on the album. The song itself is pretty solid, though I was drawn to most of the other songs on Kerplunk more than this one.

Bolt submits Green Day - Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?

In 5th place (5 points):

I had heard of this band, but don't think I'd heard a song by them before this. Especially because I thought they were a metal band. I must be confusing them with some other band.

So I was quite surprised to hear the dude coming out sounding like Story of the Year. (and I mean A LOT like Story of the Year, has anyone ever seen those two guys in the same room?)

And yeah, I like this okay. It managed to avoid the 2000's emo rock trap of being too whiny.

IBD submits Saosin - Mookie's Last Christmas

In 4th place (6 points):

This artist has been mostly a blind spot for me, so wasn't sure what to expect.

Sometimes people getting too avant-garde and **** turns me off, but this was great.

This would have podiumed, but for some reason the submitter submitted a version that had 2.5 minutes of dead air after it, so I knocked it down a spot.

(I also could have knocked it down a spot because apparently this artist was involved with the production of whatever that Captain Beefheart **** was earlier in this reveal. I was fair though; good song, just proofread your submissions next time.)

Rick submits Frank Zappa - Peaches En Regalia

supposedly Holden caulfield comes from Salinger walking by a movie theater and seeing a sign for a movie starring William Holden and Jane caulfield

In 3rd place (8 points):

Much like Fairytale of New York in the Christmas category, I probably just should have said that I was going to penalize stuff for over-familiarity.

But I didn't so here we are.

You've all heard the song before. It's great, as most of his stuff is. I wouldn't say this is in the top-tier of his stuff, but it's got some heavy competition.

Filthy submits David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust

In 2nd place (10 points):

Another band I've heard of, but never heard a song from. I know they're big in the UK, but they are complete non-entities over here.

And again I was surprised, because I figured they were some U2 like band and not some punk ****.

This was fantastic (I think Filthy would really like these lyrics) and seems especially relevant as 2026 starts out absolutely terrible.

Manic Street Preachers -Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldfallapart

In 1st place (12 points):

I've heard a few things by this artist years ago, and as I recall they've mostly bored me. Not this one, which hooked me from the very first note and managed to keep my interest for nearly 7 minutes.

This is a case where I wish the title wasn't so long and silly. This could have been an indie pop hit under different circumstances. Maybe I was wrong about this guy; I owe him another shot.

Donk submits Sufjan Stevens - Come On! Feel the Illinoise! Part I: The World's Columbian Exposition Part II: Carl Sandburg Visits Me In A Dream

And with that, Walrus has concluded.

With 3 top-two finishes, Donk takes the top prize.

Silver is shared between Xander with 2 top-two finishes and IBD with one podium and no bad performances.

Filthy can pretend he got bronze.

Thanks all for your submissions!

Glad you liked mine.

Manic Street Preachers are great.

If you want an easy route to getting into them then listen to their greatest hits (this song didn't even make the cut to be on that album).

Lots of great music. Motorcycle Emptiness is probably my favourite, followed by Kevin Carter. If you tolerate this then your children will be next is probably they're most famous song.

I always find their lyrics hard to understand but I know why. They have their lyrics which are non negotiables, and they know what music sounds good so they force the lyrics in, often with weird cadence or the stress in the wrong place.

Congrats donk and the podium (and also filthy I suppose).

Thanks for the game eb

Wooo

glad you liked my entries

I love Sufjan, I could have submitted a number of songs on that album but that's the best of the lot

Alice third! woo hoo!

thanks EB!

congrats winners! and others :p

Not last! Thanks, eb. Congrats to the winners.

this is the best sufjan song, the rest of his stuff gets pretty tedious halfway through the song

this is probably the more approachable mainsteam rock zappa

more of his instrumental stuff

and the weird al adjacent stuff he's most famous for, songs like don't eat the yellow snow and this

thanks for running even though i got robbed
