merry christmas to you as well sir

congrats on the book g

Thanks, mang. I hope you enjoy it. As I've said to others, you might want to skip the intro chapter, unless you are a hardcore history nerd, as that is were the majority of the historian nerdery is. You can always come back to it after reading the narrative, but the rest is much more engaging, imo.

I operate it as a business with extensive record-keeping. Every mile I drive away from home is tracked. As an itinerant working almost exclusively away from my tax home, most related expenses are deductible.

My apologies — I want to amend my earlier comment from a few days ago, as the wording wasn’t precise. I maintain a tax home in California and operate my sports betting activity as a trade or business with extensive record-keeping, traveling temporarily to other states to conduct wagering activity where it is legally permitted.

During December, I was primarily on the road due to wagering legislation, while maintaining my tax home in California. All deductions are limited to substantiated, ordinary, and necessary business expenses incurred while away from my tax home.

I didn’t want to leave this uncorrected in case anyone was reading back and thinking about doing something similar.

This reflects my own situation and isn’t tax advice.

I'm spending it while not taking your posts as tax advice. 😉

Happy New Year!!

Well, here we are. Hope everyone has the new year they desire.

Good morning and Happy New Year!

All of this should PMO, so I can't put it in the other thread.

A local CU I have an account with sent me an email that my statement is ready. This is the end of good things.

They have been advertising a name change for some months now. The email has the old name, the login page has the new, and the 2FA page and subsequent pages have the old.

Really? Is is that hard to swap out an icon? (hint: no).

After login, they send me down a 2FA road. Ask if I want text or call, have a remember device checkbox, and a device name input. On my new laptop, so I want it remembered, put "laptop" in the name, and submit.

Get a text with the magic code. However, the form to input this has an error: device name already exists.

Of course, they provide no way to rectify this, so I have to start over.

JFC, sanitize your input in the proper order, or let the user correct it all. Or, even better, don't make BS "device name" have to be unique in an account. Even better, don't have it at all; FFS, they're writing a cookie to tell you this device has already been verified. There's no need to have it in a database; it will be local to the device.

Of course, they don't embed something in the URL so, post-verification, it takes me directly to the statements tab. I have to click around, and statements opens a new tab (quite unnecessarily).

Just a terrible, terrible, implementation.

Solid rant. 8/10. Would read again.

thanks Venice! I hope so too, albeit my year was highly polarised.

Business went pretty well and I met a great new woman at the beginning of last year and my kids are all doing pretty well. So actually, that stuff was great, it's just that my ex wife is a total disaster and my mum has descended very quickly.

wishing the best to you and your family too
