President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

This is very much on brand, and not at all surprising. Classical music is inherently a global community; almost all of us routinely study abroad and perform internationally which correlates to more liberal worldviews. For as much as the industry is deeply committed to its traditions, we’ve been doing “woke” things like this since forever.

The Washington National Opera, the resident opera company at the Kennedy Center for the past 55 years, just severed ties with the Kennedy Center. This means there are now no resident artists at the KC producing music. Truly unprecedented.

Classical musicians won’t perform for fascists lmao

Future generations of Americans will be grateful to Trump for almost single-handedly giving America: Cheap Venezuelan oil, free passes to Gaza Theme Park, Greenland, Canada and Cuba.

Just sayin'

Do you think you will still find the Trump presidency humorous if he keeps this up another three years?

He's not wrong though. Current Americans are taught to be grateful that earlier presidents slaughtered the natives and Mexicans so we can now live or visit from sea to shining sea.

I wasn't taught this, and I doubt education has become more nationalistic since the time I was in school.

Trump READS PRIVATE NOTE OUT LOUD

Accidently watched a bit of this. Rubio, and Vance to a lesser degree, looked so uncomfortable and on edge the whole time. I guess because they knew something like this was likely to happen whenever Trump opens his mouth.

No one was taught this.

There are other ways of conveying that message to kids than through a loudspeaker blasting "America is the greatest goddamn nation the world has ever seen, praise be the Lord".

Manifest destiny

manifest destiny looks like down the toilet unless you get the cockwomble out/dead

I was attempting a bit of so-called 'gallows humor.'

That's just provably, empirically false.

No one was taught this.

I was essentially taught that.

That's what movies taught until the 1960's.

you werent taught to revere the founding fathers? you werent taught that America is a great country?

I can honestly say I have no recollection of the version of history I was taught. Well, maybe the American revolution, but that's the extent of my memory.

American K-12 history books are definitely filled to the brim with manifest destiny bs and a lot of founding father worship.

It wasn't until I was substitute teaching that I realized just how ****ed up it is for kids to recite the pledge of allegiance each morning.

I remember saying the pledge of allegiance every day in school

edit: this is a slow pony post, I didn't even see jish's post

Nah

Yeah my bad I probably should have actually read the article before posting lol.
Seems ridiculous that he can veto it though, what's the point in having senate votes, if that's the case?

Yes, it's quite sinister and Maoist. For one thing, Americans owe allegiance to the Republic as of right and no oath is required except from immigrants seeking US citizenship, from federal office holders or from soldiers-- and schoolchildren are not soldiers. For another thing, an oath once taken is binding and nothing is gained by repeating it except in terms of mindless indoctrination.

They can counter a presidential veto with a 2/3 majority vote in the senate.

Okay. Then why did you say "nah" as if Trump's veto power was absolute and not able to be countered?

Because the bill won’t pass with 2/3 majority in the senate anyway. When it does get passed, it’s contingent on knowing the bill will get vetoed. It’s a game these politicians play where they pretend to support something so that when it comes to election time they can campaign on bipartisanship or ideological maverickism or some other crap.

Because there is a 0.0% chance of there being enough votes in the Senate to override the veto.
