the 5 BI shot went POORLY! Plus about a million coolers at the normal stake during the 48 hour period I tried. Swongs 2500-1000-2500 I'm back!
Lessons learned:
1. keep foot on the gas, when you get passive in PLO you get dead
2. clean up the preflop range, Ace-rag suited with small/medium pairs for example has got to go, as do all raggy Ax suited hands. Never playing those for a raise anymore. Being a lot more selective with danglers even with A suited-broadway-broadway-rag but I will still get frisky on CO and BU with those.
3. still working on this but I need to get better with table selection, if there's not a whale or two playing 60%+ VPIP it's just trading coolers for the most part even if there's a slight edge over the regs from selective aggression and postflop play
4. I've been checkraised pot on the flop like 7 times in the last 24 hours and 100% of the time it's been top set (using reveal hands)
I personally wouldn’t approach PLO by playing hands and then making constant micro-tweaks based on individual outcomes. While it can feel like you’re getting 1% better each time—and that those gains compound—what often ends up happening is a lot of circular adjustment, especially given how contextual PLO is and how many different situations can arise.
If you’d ever want to post a few hand histories along with your thought process, I’d be more than happy to look at them and share my perspective here. I tend to like public discussions, since they usually lead to broader insights and can be helpful for others following along as well.
I don't consider these really as micro-tweaks, more macro/general strategy tweaks. Context and player tendencies make a lot of difference in any individual hand to be sure. And without a HH download/export in WPT gold I don't really have any way to run data on my observations. I'm just perceiving that those hands I'm eliminating from the preflop range are leaky, especially with the ante/straddle format where a standard/pot-sized open with a couple limps can be as much as 15BB.

Pman is an assclown. Do not bankroll him in any way whatsoever.
I asked him pointed questions regarding his experience etc. He flat out did not answer. He lies via omission and misrepresents himself in order to get gamblin $. He admits to having gambling problems (slots, table games etc). He admits to playing variants of poker he has zero knowledge of. It is largely believed his parents fund his lifestyle, although he claims to have made $ with the bitcoins.
Steer clear of him, I have seen dozens and dozens of pman variants in my time. He literally beings zero to the table and trying to assist is a waste of your valuable time.

lol he has ZERO work ethic. He wants a participation trophy and for every one to be nice, positive, and tell him how ossum he is. Reality is different. The great thing about the pman types is they are excellent providers. Simply figure out how they "think about the game" act accordingly with a very simple counter strat, be polite and smile, and they will become your personal atm at the table.
Im not super into bagging on people. I stopped posting in his thread once i realized he enjoys lying via omission and misrepresenting his qualifications. RTP is a guy that I like and who will be good at just about anything he puts his mind to asked a question. I am giving my experiences at dealing with this type of character you will meet and that they should be kept at arms length for a host of reasons.
Several years back thetrooper asked me for a stake. I have done a lot of steaking in my time. the amt he needed was insignificant and I would be doing it largely as a favor. However, after meeting with him it was obvious that staking would be a massive disservice to him. So I declined. It was NOT a close decision, in fact it was one of my easier rejections. Pure aggression is a really nice guy. Big heart and just good positive dude. Sadly he decided that rolling T was a good idea; it ended badly.

The dood is a self admitted losing player at LLSNL, which is pretty much impossible to lose at (if only for pennies an hour) for any trying rec (let alone a pro). I mean, wrap your head around that... *he's a loser at LLSNL*. Is that the sign of someone with an aptitude for poker that should be encouraged to take that route? For some people who colour outside the lines (lol, attempting to find a phrase here and that's what I came up with, lol @ me?) this route may be an option (you, RR and Dumbo come to mind), but Pman ain't that guy, imo.
Pman's best line, bar none, is to move from Vegas, never step foot in a casino again, never play a single hand of poker again, and get as normie a job as he can handle, and it isn't remotely close. But since it is unlikely he'll do any of that, I've tailored my "get-a-job" response in his thread as best as possible within the inflexible framework he is persisting to exist in. I don't think he's a bad dood or anything; he's just floundering a bit like some young people can.
IMO, having never met the guy IRL and based only on what I've seen on this forum.

pman seems like a good guy, but as mentioned he has zero work ethic. he's been getting great advice from very knowledgable people here for years and ignores it all. just keep that in mind if you're thinking of mentoring him RtP.

The process matters too much to ignore. BRM, gradually moving up etc. are crucial beyond his feasibility.

You’ve had a hugely successful gambling career and you’re happily out the other side now enjoying your fruits and you don’t really show any signs of wanting back in. But you do seem to keep half an eye on the world still.
I don’t think it’s because you enjoy watching the car crashes. There are definitely people on here like that but I don’t think it’s you. Is it that you can’t turn off your eye for an edge? Or are you looking to help/coach? Or is it something else
