President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

the video is really weird. its ominously talking about election fraud and then towards the end that clip of the Obamas is spliced in for like a second and then it returns to the fraud stuff. its completely out of place and random. I guess some groyperesque intern thought he was being clever. Trump proly thought it was funny too.

Guys, I can't emphasize enough how rushing in here to explain away Trump's use of unambiguously vile, racist imagery makes you look like cool dudes who didn't crawl out from under a gutter.

Especially bahmickey pointing out how we've really crooked Joe Biden to blame ultimately.

And on that note, here is some light music

The video is 3 seconds of this

If the President thought that was clever or funny, or remotely appropriate to his office, he's losing his mind. Brain gone to Swiss cheese type thing.

by housenuts

Why did racist Trump delete the video?

Am I correct that you infer from the deletion that they were just caught unawares by the racist overtones of the video until they were educated by the public reaction?

Maybe? I'm not sure and not really inferring anything. I guess if he wanted to be racist, why delete it? Maybe he didn't expect as much backlash? Damage kinda done either way. Does deleting salvage anything? I don't think so.

Sure it does. You have tardos like you and lag that are defending it as is and then when they delete it and blame it on a staffer, you're happy to do their bidding for them.

they put America before the host country's of the olympic games to prevent booing from going on too long. well done Americans ! The only other country to get booed was isreal. even iran didn't get booed and they killed like 15k people this month

Who is defending it lol
Only you and Trolly it seems.

You are such an amazing cuck

You're questioning whether it's racist or not because "hurr durr, then why delete it??"

What a tardo.

Jfc geezer just when I think you can't get any dumber or more pathetic, you surprise me yet again. You know damn well that black people were historically portrayed as apes by racists, so it isn't a nothing burger. Nobody cares about your opinion anyway.

Not sure how you could possibly know that nobody cares about my opinion. Please share your polling data. Thanks.

That said, I actually do care about your opinion so a quick question for you: Is it wrong to depict Trump as a monkey?

Are you taking the piss? That's a total false equivalence and I'm not even entertaining your bullshit. You claimed it was a nothing burger then backtracked on that and now it's back to being a nothing burger?

by Rococo

This is a big fat "nope" for me. Does this logic extend to words? If Trump had been called some slur that referred to Hispanic people, would it then become problematic to criticize him for using the slur to refer to Hispanic people? As an aside, after initially defending the video, Trump's people have now pulled it and are scapegoating some staffer. It must be wild to manage

In my opinion it would be wrong for Trump (or anyone else) to use a slur that is invariably a reference to a particular people group.

I've seen folks of all stripes and persuasions referred to as 'monkeys' or 'donkey's though. Using monkey as an insult is ubiquitous.

correct. now read your prior post and try to determine the difference.

We will never know if he meant racist overtones but what he did was disgusting and blaming a staffer even worse.
The only right thing for him to do is apologize

yes exactly.

it was racist.

if that was his intent all along, not sure why he deletes it.

it was probably more of a: hurp durp, this is video is funny imma post it. people immediately point out it's racist, he goes oh ya, guess it is, better delete it and blame it on someone else.

blaming it on a staffer is horrible form. just own up to it and apologize.

Fine to not answer my question. Maybe someone who is not a coward will answer it.

As I've said many times, Trump is awful. I don't think anyone should be called names like that.

Trump is unlikely to ever apologize for anything he does.

I did answer when I accurately stated it was a false equivalence as well you know, you can't possibly be this obtuse

Sorry if I missed your answer.

Just to be clear we're on the same page, the question was "Is it wrong to depict Trump as a monkey?"

It's a "yes" or "no" question. (Which of course you can supplement with as many words as you choose.)

Whether it is or isn't a 'false equivalence' to a prior isn't necessarily relevant to answering the question (as stated) "yes" or "no."

I'm going to let you in on two secrets. The first secret is that nearly every adult person who was born in this United States would recognize that portraying a black person as an ape is a racist trope. It is not remotely plausible that Trump or anyone in his orbit was unaware of this trope. The second secret is that it is difficult to perfectly calibrate what the public reaction will be (and more importantly to Trump, what the reaction of people in your own party will be) will be when you post, do, or say something racist. Trump's team is aiming for what they perceive to be the sweet spot -- something that will cause Democrats to complain about racism, something that will sound like a dog whistle or coded language to his most racist supporters, and something that professional and amateur Trump apologists (including other Republican politicians) can characterize as Trump being Trump and not caring about being woke. The sweet spot isn't enormous and they sometimes miss the mark because they are stupid and careless.
