TV: what have you been watching?

I think The Walking Dead may be the best drama thats currently airing/in production.

There, I said it.

I've finally gotten round to watching Parks and Rec and Community

Loving both so far

Peak tv, let's see... I guess I'll go with 81-86. Not totally serious but not totally joking either.

This may well result in another tv show draft, which reminds me of one me and D1iab partnered on over in pog iirc!

Which we no doubt won!

We probably did that in around 2011? A draft today would look a lot different than it did back then lol.

I also remember doing a tv theme quiz back then with Breaking Bad as one of the answers and I don't think anybody knew it. Took a while for people to catch on to that show's greatness.

feel free to stop watching community once it gets cancelled and brought back - completely different show by then

parks falls hard at the end but it's not unbearable - the last season(s) of community are

Have started a binge rewatch of Mad Men last week which I haven't seen since original airing. Just started season 2. This is one of my all-time favorite TV shows and easily in my top 5 ever. The mood, writing, characters, atmosphere are all top notch. This show absolutely buries almost everything else. I do know though that season one is the pinnacle and subsequent seasons aren't at that level but still better than almost anything else. This IS peak TV.

I agree, fantastic show. It captured that 60s vibe perfectly.

I started a rewatch a few weeks ago and just like you I hadn't seen it since since it aired. It's incredible. And I've slowed down dramatically through season 6 and 7 just trying to savor every scene. Enjoy.

appreciate the reminder somehow have never watched how my cul de sac parents partied with the next door friends while i was an infant
still have fuzzy strong mental images of classic flip clock snapping twelve mid-night while sleeping on a bed atop of colorful coats every adult brought except the owners
remember not until next morning when my parents scooped me up and we went home next door to nap again

Damn, A Knight Of the Seven Kindoms was excellent.

MARSHALS is bad. Umkay...

Thought I'd fire up the first episode of Succession for a fun throwback. A week later I'm nearly finished season 2 and in love all over again. The chess moves from each family member, Greg making minor moves but always in the mix, Logan playing everyone against each other and defeating everyone all at once and every jab is either death by a thousand cuts or a straight stab to the chest. Absolute cinema!

*edit* Interesting observation. S1Ep2 Ken says to Roman, "Roman. I love you, but you are not a serious person." Fast forward to the final season when Logan says to his children, "I love you, but you are not serious people."

And there's another Yellowstone spinoff coming out soon centred around possibly the most unlikeable tv character of the last decade. Who the hell asked for this?

Steve Carell's new show Rooster is pretty funny. Entertaining supporting cast, breezy runtime. I recommend it

Top Boy
Entertaining and gritty series regarding a gang of drug dealers, quite violent in parts.

Kin
Not bad drama regarding a Dublin crime family at war with a supplier, the series is loosely inspired by the Kinahan cartel, Charlie Cox's (Daredevil) Dublin accent isn't half bad either.

Piece on the real Kinahan cartel itself here

Finished my binge rewatch of Mad Men and I loved every second of it. Really a top notch production and clearly in my top 5 of all-time. I have really been enjoying rewatching shows I hadn't seen since they aired and finally jumped into the big kahuna.

I watched every episode of The Sopranos when it aired and never since. Right now about half way through season one and it is terrific! I remember all of the characters but basically none of the story lines outside of the huge ones since it has been so long since I had seen any of it.

I am glad I have given these series enough time for me to have forgotten them to revisit now. These "older" shows absolutely bury any of the new garbage they are trying to pass off as entertainment.

I'm rewatching Veronica Mars. Just finished the first season.

Could barely remember the story, and definitely didn't recall there being so many episodes.

The Pitt Season 2 has one episode left to go. I'm loving this season. Give Wyle all the trophies for his performance. His economy of movement is outstanding. He can shift his eyes a tiny bit and BAM bro is ACTING. He's also doing this thing where he's unraveling before our eyes but you can see him trying to keep it together. The whole cast is on another level. Looking forward to next season.

Just finished The Man in the High Castle and found it just so-so overall. I thought its depiction of a Nazi America was quite effective and chilling, but I felt it strayed into melodrama too much and found the last series rather weak with an absolutely abysmal conclusion.
New series of The Boys is so far off to a good start for me.

love the boys, haven't started most recent season though because the final episodes of the prior one felt pretty lame and i'm worried it's going to go all GOT on me

man in high castle is utter trash, but the book it's based on is amazing, they really adapted it horribly

Best TV drama for me in a good while was Watchmen. That really delivered as a follow up to both the movie and the graphic novel. It's aligned in story to the graphic novel, but looks and feels like the movie, if that helps.

It was about perfect.

And its themes and story REALLY resinate with what has been happening in the last few years in the US, even though it came out in 2019.

I'll have to check the book out thanks for the heads up

Watchmen was elite television. Just about perfect. Up there with Chernobyl and Band Of Brothers as a limited series.

now, the stupid movie is horrible on every level.

We'll agree to differ. I think it's Snyder's best movie after 300.

300 and Dawn of the Dead are the only good contributions Zak Snyder has ever made to film.

Man of Steel was serviceable, only because Cavill is the best Superman since Reeves.

Watchmen is fine.

The rest of his work has been shite.
