I would be less worried about mass violence and more worried about entrenchment. The only possible path for the GOP away from its current direction is for Trump to become a political liability who is associated with losing. Core principle will never drive the party away from Trump and his ilk, but self-interest theoretically could. Martyrdom cuts off that path and simply would make criticism of Trump a political no-fly zone for GOP politicians for an extended period.

This starkly displays the strength of the number one psychological need for conservatives: ORDER. They crave order and are horrified by disorder, above all else. Everybody must follow the rules.
