President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Just a reminder that the very first thing I told you about how you were misrepresenting the study is that it wasn't designed to test the effectiveness of transition care. That you are trying to correct me on that is hilarious. All I did was say the conclusion states that it alleviates gender dysphoria which it does state explicitly. Again, it does this because it's non-controve

this is peak performance art

lol

let's talk about my comparison to the lobotomy, because it's highly relevant for the "studies" in favor of transitioning

moniz won the nobel prize in 1949 for developing the prefrontal lobotomy. the highest scientific honor on earth, awarded specifically for that procedure

the award was given largely based on a handful of studies eerily similar to the ones you cite as "good science" which dhejne's own paper calls "very low quality due to the serious methodological limitations of included studies."

it gained legitimacy through horrific studies and a nobel credential and then it scaled. tens of thousands of procedures over the following decade

once long term follow up emerged, the early improvement numbers collapsed and the sheer volume of real world outcomes forced the scientific community to pivot and recognize the procedure was harmful

the caution we lacked back then, when there was nothing but small flawed studies often run by people with skin in the game, is exactly the caution sweden, finland, the uk, and norway are now applying to pediatric gender medicine. all liberal bastions, some of the most accepting and pro-trans rights countries in the world. they read the same literature you're citing and reached the opposite conclusion from yours

Is there really much of an issue with lobotomy other than it doesn’t work? We perform similar procedures to lobotomy to this day. I imagine the popular conception of why lobotomy is bad is that we’re cutting out a piece of the brain, but that’s not the issue.

If you accept the conclusions of the study, it’s saying there is good evidence to show quality of life increases but relative risk for suicide and attempts are still high. This also includes a cohort from 70-89 when procedures were worse and acceptance was lower. Still we have to again go back to the point that the own author is not agreeing with your point, since we aren’t comparing it to an impossible counterfactual, what would have been the relative risk to their all cause morality had they not gone through sex reassignment.

Another thing the study is showing by comparing to the cisgender control is that certain medical issues transgender people don’t have too much higher relative risk for. So the QoL improvements they see could still be weighted quite high.

Given the nature of sex reassignment, a double blind randomized controlled study of the result after sex reassignment is not feasible. We therefore have to rely on other study designs. For the purpose of evaluating whether sex reassignment is an effective treatment for gender dysphoria, it is reasonable to compare reported gender dysphoria pre and post treatment. Such studies have been conducted either prospectively[7], [12] or retrospectively,[5], [6], [9], [22], [25], [26], [29], [38] and suggest that sex reassignment of transsexual persons improves quality of life and gender dysphoria. The limitation is of course that the treatment has not been assigned randomly and has not been carried out blindly.
For the purpose of evaluating the safety of sex reassignment in terms of morbidity and mortality, however, it is reasonable to compare sex reassigned persons with matched population controls. The caveat with this design is that transsexual persons before sex reassignment might differ from healthy controls (although this bias can be statistically corrected for by adjusting for baseline differences). It is therefore important to note that the current study is only informative with respect to transsexuals persons health after sex reassignment; no inferences can be drawn as to the effectiveness of sex reassignment as a treatment for transsexualism. In other words, the results should not be interpreted such as sex reassignment per se increases morbidity and mortality. Things might have been even worse without sex reassignment. As an analogy, similar studies have found increased somatic morbidity, suicide rate, and overall mortality for patients treated for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.[39], [40] This is important information, but it does not follow that mood stabilizing treatment or antipsychotic treatment is the culprit.

just need to grind more low level subforums and level up

Then he'll move up to where he won't respect your praises.

Watching this self proclaimed liberal arguing about suicide rates and lobotomies to disprove the effectiveness of treatment is pretty pathetic. Gorgos only point was that the current treatment regimes has been deemed effective by the very study he cites to say it isn’t..

Next comes the attempt to shame him for his allleged dishonesty and personal attacks.

yes, but everything now is highly targeted and specific.

back then it often really was just driving an ice pick-like instrument through the back of the eye socket and blindly thrashing it around inside the frontal lobe until the connections were severed. except "severed" is generous. they were shredded. the surgeon couldn't see anything, had no imaging, and had no way of knowing how much brain tissue they were destroying in the process. some patients came out mildly changed. others never fed themselves again.

estimates vary, but some accounts put freeman's mortality rate as high as 1 in 7. more conservative figures put it closer to 5%. either way, that's an insane mortality rate.

the early studies were also deeply misleading. "cured" didn't mean the illness was gone or the patient restored to normal functioning. many remained institutionalized for life, left apathetic, cognitively damaged, emotionally flattened, or unable to function independently. but from the institution's perspective, a patient who used to scream, attack staff, or bite people and was now passive and manageable counted as a success. they weren't cured, they were pacified.

that's where the real horror starts. when severely psychotic patients produced these so-called "good outcomes," other doctors read the studies, saw "successful treatment," and the procedure spread well beyond extreme cases to more ordinary psychiatric patients. people who, with time or treatment, could have gone on to live completely normal lives were instead permanently diminished by a surgery being sold as a miracle cure.

it got so crazy that proponents were eventually advocating it for conditions as mundane as chronic headaches and nervousness - but it's hard to track down how many people underwent it for those reasons because the official records generally cover catch-alls - ie those would all have been labeled intractable pain as a reason

a huge accelerant was how easy it was to perform. a single doctor could do 1-2 dozen lobotomies in a single day, often in a regular room inside a mental institution with no hospital required. once it became a cheap, fast wonder surgery, far too many people who should never have been exposed to it ended up paying the price.

Aww man, who could have guessed?!

A year after followers of President Donald Trump put down $100 deposits for a Trump-branded gold phone, not one has shipped, and a recent change in the fine print has some worried they may never arrive.

Last month, the company behind Trump Mobile, T1 Mobile LLC, quietly updated its preorder terms and conditions to clarify that it “does not guarantee that a Device will be produced or made available for purchase.”

At some point, Rick has to know this obsession of his isn't normal, right?

From the article:

"Last month, the company behind Trump Mobile, T1 Mobile LLC, quietly updated its preorder terms and conditions to clarify that it “does not guarantee that a Device will be produced or made available for purchase.

[...]

"The phone, which was originally advertised as being made in America, will now be “designed with American values in mind,” the website states. While the Trump phone remains unreleased, Trump Mobile is selling refurbished Samsung phones and iPhones that connect to its network and its so-called 47 Plan—a $47.45-per-month service that pays homage to Trump’s distinction as both the 45th and 47th president."

From the Wiki on Trump Mobile:

Trump Mobile is an American mobile virtual network operator owned by T1 Mobile that uses a licensed brand from The Trump Organization. It was founded on June 16, 2025, by American President Donald Trump and his son, Eric Trump.

From an article on CNET:

"Trump Phone Looks Different, Has No Launch Date, Isn't Made in America"
[...]
"FCC documents show that a phone from Smart Gadgets Global -- whose CEO is listed as Eric Thomas, a Trump Mobile executive -- was certified by the FCC in January. The Smart Gadgets Global website is mostly empty, apart from some stock images of technology. The AI chatbot on the site could not provide any information on the T1 phone."

This really is a perfect summary of Trump's presidency.

People are saying that 80% of mental patients were given lobotomies, right Losen.

Obama phones. Trump phones. What is with presidents obsessing over phones?

Yes, I am kidding.

People put up a deposit for the phone, so maybe there's an up to a 1% chance those [strike]suckers[/strike] customers will get their money back.

Well now that you put it that way I think you are right that this is NOT funny.

A politician taking money and not delivering on what he/she claims they will is deeply concerning. This could be the start of a slippery slope. It starts with trump asking for $100 and not delivering on what he said he'd do, but what is next? Maybe the next politician will be even more bold than trump and pitch us on giving them thousands of dollars every year and not providing us with a great government education, affordable housing, good roads and a safe downtown.

Maybe this is why Baba is on a high today.

President posted more than 50 times in three hours, attacking on Obama, NY Times and supreme court

Posts included doctored images of himself on the $100 bill and demands that political opponents be arrested.

Starting late on Monday evening Trump promoted posts on his Truth Social platform that falsely accused Obama of plotting a coup against Trump, as well as claims calling Obama a “traitor” and “the most demonic force in American politics”. Trump also shared images of Obama, former president Joe Biden and former House speaker Nancy Pelosi in the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool. In the altered images, the pool – which Trump has proposed renovating to an “American flag blue” color – appeared filled with sewage beneath the caption: “Dumacrats love sewage”.

Other targets of Trump’s late-night screed included Illinois’s governor, JB Pritzker; the House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries; and Hillary Clinton, against whom he contested the 2016 presidential election. He also repeated false claims about the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to Biden but continues to insist was stolen from him.

why hasn't that coward locked her up yet? it's been 10 years now, bro. running out of time to deliver on one of his signature promises...

here for the lols. great stuff

Trump definitely crashing out with his marathon Obama-lives-in-my-head-rent-free posting session in the wee hours.
