Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Lol AP headline a few minutes ago:
You see with Israel, it has to be specified when they are attacking military sites, what with peoples homes being the usual targets, and even the AP agrees.
The difference is the Israelis don't have a beef with the Iranian citizens. The Iranian citizens aren't helping their government genocide Israel. The Israelis know the Iranian citizens would love their government toppled whereas the Palestinians support and help their leaders.
I think we've known that for some time, certainly more than a decade. Iran is the strategic enemy and Israel can't deal with it alone, so they want to draw the US in, which the US at present does not want.
shouldn't Iran consider us (the USA) already at war with them .
we are supplying weapons to Israel.
if we use the IDF logic that would give Iran the right to attack us on US soil .
obviously it won't happen for many reasons .

hopefully Iran doesnt re-re-re-taliate. or hopefully Israel's attack is a dud so they dont feel compelled.
They will retaliate for sure in some capacity. Interestingly, Biden is not returning to the situation room of the White House which could be an indicator that this is not that big of a deal or maybe he is just taking a nap.
Israel is now bombing Sharaz Iran a military zone. Also, they are bombing targets in Damascus.

It’s past Biden’s bedtime.
Both Iraq and Iran have closed down their airspace. Something big is coming!
There are a second wave of attacks now in Tehran. This is a bad day for the Palestinian resistance.

The US and Israel have been directly fighting Iranian supplied groups for decades. So by this logic, Iran declared war on the US years and years ago.
Yeah after a strike Ukrainians will gather together, look at the stats and if Russia mostly killed civilians then they will post about the injustice, otherwise they will just say "well that's war".
Ironically you sound kinda like Victor who said something along the lines of "any time a Ukrainian gets his dick blown off you call it a war crime".
This is not "whining". Ukrainians post about the injustice of having their families murdered too. The difference from your perspective is probably just that no one posts these things on 2p2.
On 8 October 2023, Hezbollah started firing guided rockets and artillery shells at Israeli positions in the occupied Shebaa Farms, which it said was in solidarity with Palestinians following the Hamas attack on Israel and beginning of Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip.[66][67][68] Israel retaliated by launching drone strikes and artillery shells at Hezbollah positions near Lebanon's boundary with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

I’m curious what you think the origin of the conflict is since you seem convinced it didn’t start with Hez joining in with Hamas in a completely unforced error.
We have been in the beginning stages of WW3 for quite some time. This will make it official. I'm wondering if it's time to start a WW3 thread.
There isn't going to be WWIII unless China gets involved, which I dont think is going to happen. I cant really articulate why it seems this way, but it really seems like things are lining up where the West will give up Tawain, and in return China will stop propping up the IRI (where it gets assurances it will have access to purchase energy from whoever takes the IRI's place).
This read could be completely wrong, but act is kind of where my head is at.

ahh yes, just making things up about me again
Iran declared war on the United States and UK when they had free elections and voted in someone who was going to keep too much of the money from Iranian oil in Iran.

Strikes on Iranian oil fields could get China involved, although unlikely their military.
I think it's unlikely Israel attacks anything which significantly hurts their oil industry.
Either way it's really premature to be claiming ww3 already imo.

This is like trying to predict late game chess moves before the first move has even been taken.
There are so many factors which will go into whether or not Taiwan is defended, or if it will even come to it requiring a defense.
The IDF says the strikes targeted Iranian military sites, including air defense batteries and missile manufacturing sites — those used in attacks on Israel on October 1 and April 14.
Additionally, the military says the strikes have given the IAF “wider freedom of aerial action in Iran,” and it has a wide bank of targets that can be struck in future operations, if required.
Looks like the attack was restrained enough that Iran isn't going to respond, which is pretty much what everyone (except maybe Netanyahu?) wants.
If a country invades another and the invaded country has to conscript civilians to defend their sovereignty, then yes Russia has killed almost entirely civilians.
Even looking at raw numbers, more civilians have likely died in Mariupol than Gaza.
In other news, some Kurdish rebels did a terrorist attack in Turkey a couple days ago, and Turkey responded by attacking a Kurdish oil refinery, and all the pro Islamist crowd suddenly have nothing to say about attacking civilian infrastructure. Funny how that works.
If you look at the history of Turkey since the Ottoman's fell, it is actually way worse than Israel on every single dimension. And the response of the world is complete indifference. Once again demonstrating that there is no first principle behind the vast majority of the moral outrage Israel is receiving, and it is mostly just lizard brain tribalism and antisemitism.

Also a bakery.
Turkey sucks.
The Democratic Federation of Northern and Eastern Syria didn't do anything, but the PKK attacked a defense contractor (Turkish Aerospace Industries) in Turkey.
