Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
They're cool with the overall idea of a genocide, they just really hate the branding.
the thing is, genocide as a term and abstraction doesnt really do justice to the actual details of the murder that includes bulldozing people alive, burning people alive, and burying people alive. oh and the mass rape and torture.
and there is no "genocidal israeli government"
but there were israeli victims on october 7th
Secular people at a music festival on a saturday that were brutally raped and murdered (YES THEY WERE RAPED). and you seem to have zero sympathy for them
since you are new here assuming you arent a gimmick, how should israel have responded?
anyone who raped or abused anyone, whether in war or not, should be prosecuted
if there were bad actors in the idf they should be prosecuted
you guys seem to believe that is the idf MO, which is a flat out lie

they were gonna maybe kinda prosecute one of the rapists. instead he went on Israeli TV and became a star.
the main blame the government of Israel should take is for giving the extra 130,000 permits to make Gazans lives better. They will not make that mistake again
I'm not sure the work permits were the problem. I think it might have been the airstrikes in Gaza and allowing settlers to steal land and terrorize Palestinians in the West Bank.

that's the excuse they are using for why they did it. But the reason it was able to happen is the work permits and the ease at the gaza border
i am not cool with anyone dying unnecesarily
I pray every night that hamas surrenders and the hostages are released so we can find peace
i want peace
the anti-israel people do not
i should post this every day. nobody on the anti-israel side will respond, because they do not want peace. they want israel to no longer be a state
No genocide here that I can see, just an organized effort to eradicate the people we don't like.
if anyone was wondering
it is true that the avg wage in israel is 5 times that of gaza
but only about 2x that of the West Bank
maybe because the Palestenian Authority, who is far from perfect, at least cares about its constiuency while Hamas does not?
Or maybe because there are many more Israeli occupants in the WB.
Let's talk words!
First, the word "genocide". It's a common tragedy of message boards to argue endlessly over if something is x or not without ever reaching a consensus on what x means!
So, how about "the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group" --
Israel's actions in Gaza:
-Deliberate (check!)
-Systematic (check!)
-Destruction (check!)
-...of a racial, political, or cultural group (check!)
Nowhere implicit or explicit in this definition of genocide is the necessity of literally killing all or EVEN MOST of a population. That's why it's so goddamn dumb when all the Zionists are like, "but how come population in Gaza has RISEN in the recent past??!?!?"
I'm sure somebody will find some way to argue with the dictionary, but I don't know how...
it is impossible for you to reply without buzzword adjectives
"colonial expansionist state" might be my favorite
Colonial -- even forgetting the settlements and the argument about who "owns" Gaza, Israel has obvious colonial elements as a state. Have you missed all the Zionists and their maps of "Greater Israel"?
Expansionist -- seems like, in this instance, that this is practically a synonym for colonial, but I doubt your issue was with the potentially superfluous language, so whatever
State -- no doubt about that

Good luck to all the conservatives with their never-ending war on words. And your war on poor people, while we're here!

the anti-israel people do not
1. Y'all probably already bombed the hostages to death. It's not like you know where they are, and you've levelled the place...
2. If Hamas surrenders and releases the (likely dead) hostages tomorrow, all that's gonna happen is Israel will go back to the mass oppression and violence and resource hoarding of Palestinians that spurred 10/7 in the first place. All your answered prayer does, at best, is to reset the situation with fresh scars. Great job.

Do you consider my post here a "response" to your very basic apologia that you somehow think is so compelling we're scared to respond?
pompeous you keep failing to realize that single issue I/P voters are very rare.
that democrat under 30 leaning very pro palestine is basically mostly very liberal women, often college educated.
what do you think they will do if the democratic candidate is pro Israel, vote republican? they care too much about abortion, getting their student debt canceled, rent control, "the climate crisis" (lol) and other leftist stuff.
and you saw it with voting patterns, if there was a significant number of "prop
But why even risk running a pro-Israel candidate when your voter base is overwhelmingly pro-Palestinian?
Surely the young people in the streets are more serious about the issue than lukewarm centrist pro-Israelis (NYT podcaster Ezra Klein comes to mind) who they might be alienating by going for someone who wants to put an end to the "special relationship."
Ezra Klein is still voting Democrat either way, but it's very questionable whether the young people who have been watching what they believe to be genocide will continue to do so. As a pro-Israeli who looks at the situation though a Machiavellian lens, you seem to struggle to with how egregious this is for people.

Jewish voters still generally vote democrat. Biden was not anti Israel he was moderate pro Israel. If they went full anti Israel they will lose the Jewish vote. Even if they are only about 2% of the voting electorate in some swing states, they still support the Democrat party financially at a higher level
So i don't expect the Democrat party to abandoned Israel at this time. But I could be wrong
Another 71 killed in Gaza today.
"The brave boys and girls of the IDF" back to full fire power! Go IDF!
just massacre after massacre. its Hamas's fault that Israel blasted the brain out of the child I just saw with no top of a head. pray for peace say the Israel supporters.

Wikipedia finally suspending editors with huge anti Israel bias
I dont know how true this is. But if true, I am sure all the good progressives in this thread would support the Druze communities self-determining who to associate with at the state level.
