Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
wiring thousands of bombs all around a country is the provocation! if I put bombs all over your house then I am the agressor!
and yes, ofc I am mad that thousands of innocents were hurt and killed. I have never said otherwise. I find it weird and disturbing that anyone would celebrate and gloat over it.
Mets will return to us in 3 days where he will have undoubtedly not learned anything.
STOP with the PERSONAL COMMENTARY.
Most of the Zionists in this thread are in favor of a pathway towards a Palestinian state
Most of the anti Israel people want Palestine from river to sea
What would you like?
For starters, I’d like for IDF not to shoot dozens of rounds at a car knowing that a living petrified 6 year old surrounded by her already dead relatives is inside of it.
I know that may be a lot to ask for, so I guess we can settle on those responsible being tried for war crimes.
Really, still too much to ask for?
liberals are just perplexed right now
tbf, I am pretty perplexed too. wait...does that make me a...oh no I am a liberal too as I feared.
anyway, Donny Deals aka Donny da Dove seems to have come through.
Do all of you pro Israel guys think the kill zones are good? I know we talked about this a bit before and the Israeli soldier in the thread was pro kill zone. Does anyone else want to share their opinions on maintaining kill zones and murdering unarmed Palestinians?
Imagine a just war (according to you). lets say world war 2.
Now lets go to the beaches of Normandy. A battle ground.
Did anyone, on other side, took the time to make sure he is only shooting combatants?
This is the same idea. establish a war zone and then fight.
Got it?
Murdering is a lol description of what goes on in war

you really are comparing sniping unarmed children with storming the beaches of Normandy?

We are not talking about civilians being misidentified as combatants. Israeli soldiers are often instructed to shoot unarmed people even when it is clear that they pose no threat.
Was Hamas permitted to establish kill zones or "establish a war zone and fight" on Oct 7 or does the IDF have lower standards than Hamas? Just to be clear, I don't think it is okay for either Hamas or Israel to shoot everyone when they conduct military operations because I am not a sicko.
Guys I'm not sure which wars you know of where no go zones don't get pounded on sight. The whole strip knows where the no go zone is. The very last place anyone should be is within a few hundred yards of those. Specially since there's literally nothing there. Don't think these don't also exist in Ukraine right now. Main difference is no civilians are going anywhere near them.
Now all that said, anyone who died near one is a tragedy. Whole thing is a tragedy. Sinwar chose wrong. Quite clearly.
the justification for the mass murder and terrorism in Lebanon given by the pro-Israel side is that Hezbollah started it on Oct 7th or 8th or thereabouts. but the fact that Israel intended to unleash a terrorist attack on thousands of civilians nearly 20 years ago proves that lie. I find your claims frivolous and easily open to challenge.
There are so many structural issues with your argument here Victor that I don't even know where to start. The whole thing approaches incoherence.
Israeli intelligence has known all that time that Hezbollah was preparing for this. That's the exact purpose of intelligence. Israel put 70% of the defence budget on preparing for Hezbollah to make their move. The pagers and walkies were just one of many things put in place for the moment Hezbollah did exactly what they did. You're screaming because the mouse ate the cheese, and then died in the trap. Dude Israel knew the mouse was coming.
Israel knew all about Operation Conquest of the Galilee, where the Hezbollah Radwan forces would storm Israel. And they knew a lot more too. The problem is you don't understand that these fights were all inevitable, the Axis of Resistance was always coming. Sinwar just decided when (and arguably to some disagreement with the rest of the Axis).
But if for you storing missiles in Lebanese civilian homes for decades, and then lobbing them at Israel is "resistance", but penetrating Hezbollah (a well funded, well trained, well armed fighting force) is "terrorism", how is there a dialogue? You don't create space for dialogue.
Thankfully, Hezbollah lost. So we don't have to really worry what you think in the end.
"We've been preparing to bomb the **** out of the region for years" is not quite the argument you want it to be.

Just to be clear, you're admitting here that Israel isn't taking precautions to avoid civilian deaths? Killing anyone in "the war zone" (i.e., a city) is acceptable?
Do they? Do you have any evidence that Ukrainian units are being ordered to shoot everyone they come across, even unarmed people waiving a white flag? Even unarmed children? I'm sure occasionally war crimes are committed over there, but I am unaware of explicit orders to shoot everyone coming from high up the chain of command like we see in Gaza.
Please post evidence if you have any, because I suspect you might be making stuff up.
I can't emphasize enough the point that "Israel's not doing war crimes" and "Everyone else is doing war crimes, so it's okay for Israel to do them" are mutually exclusive arguments. You've really got to pick one or the other and stick with it.
"We've been preparing to bomb the **** out of the region for years" is not quite the argument you want it to be.
No but it is. After 2006 they knew full well that this war was going to play out. Everyone knew. The main thing is Israel knew they wouldn't be able to decide when. Only the aggressors would decide it.
Imagine how incompetent Israel would have to be to not prepare for an inevitable war?

At the front (aka line of contact)? Nothing doesn't get shot at the front. Your guys are dead if they don't shoot first at the front. Those guys are a few meters from their enemies in many spots.
The problem here is you don't realize Gaza is the front.
Victor himself posted in here that Hamas was returning to suicide bombing where possible. You don't think someone walking up to your unit on the front after that is sus? It's brutal figuring that out in real time.

"Top Hamas official Mashaal urges resumption of suicide bombings against Israel"
They say that and then people want to trust anyone walking up to a unit in the no go zone? Come on now.

Turns out they were pretty incompetent, because they forgot to prepare for an attack from Hamas and left the Gaza border almost completely undefended.

Call me crazy, but I just don't think you should murder unarmed people waiving a white flag or unarmed children.

I agree! They've been preparing to seize Palestine for a long time, all Bibi needed was the right pretext.

Neither do it. But it happens in war all the time.
The Turks are killing Kurdish children all the time and its likely going to get worse now. I doubt we'll hear about it around here

Turkey might be the regional super power now. They're just not "white" enough to mention.
