Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
I watched a bunch of videos filmed by Hamas themselves showing off their field trip on 10/7. Don't think we need more details to determine this wasn't armed resistance.

But hey, it's all about interpretation right? You see Hamas executing civilians and see ''resistance''. I see murder.

If you murder ten of my guys, how many of yours can I murder?

former head of shin bet, welcome to the resistance

Great question. I’ll ask it in my philosophy class.

you are going to lecture on civilian murder now?

Nah, I know where this is going with you. You'll actually deny it happened.

no I wont. I just dont think you care about civilian harm in general. bc if you did, boy do I got some news for you.

Meh, such a boring way of arguing. Not too mention you can just go back a few pages and see how I feel about what Israel is doing.

I'm glad we found common ground, I was convinced you were going to deny what Hamas did on 10/7.

a great mod once said, they def should have done more to limit civilian harm. but they not only are justified in a response, they are legally allowed. Israel cannot say the same.

In other news Israeli targeted a number of Hezbollah missile storage facilities today. Seems the prevailing sentiment is Hezbollah is gearing up for a major attack on Israel, and Israel is preemptively destroying the missiles Hezbollah is planning on using.

Mod note- A post in this thread has been deleted and the poster banned for a week.

DO NOT wish harm on other posters. This will be moderated harshly.

Bluegrass,

In fairness Netanyahu knows Hamas is going to reject any proposal that doesn't involve Israel leaving the Rafah border, so he can make empty compromises for show in other areas.

In other news RT reported Sinwar's cancer has returned and he will need to seek asylum in Turkey or Qatar soon for treatment. It is unclear how true this is or Russia's motivation for reporting it. Seems like an attempt to undercut Sinwar's leadership, but who knows for what reason.

Although there is wide consensus Israel and US are the common enemy; beyond this there are a lot of rivalries within the Axis of Resistance and aligned powers such as Russia and China.

is this like when Putin had like 8 forms of cancer and about to die?

More reporting on torture + rape conducted by the Israeli state on palestinian detainees. I don’t think there is credible denial that this is a government policy at this point.

Well, I am sure there is certainly no doubt in your mind that whatever Hamas says is true must be true.

Hard to deny this is not looking very good for Israel. Abu Ghraib 2.0 seems a more likely than not.

the Israelis themselves admit they are doing this.

but that aside, these claims are coming from released detainees and hostages. you are actually gonna argue that Israel is releasing Hamas men?

I didn’t say anything about hamas. There’s also clear evidence of torture and sexual violence, the part that is horrifying about this and other mainstream reporting is showing that it is a state policy rather than a deviation or fluke.

The link you gave was from "testimony" of persons that had gone back to Gaza. Free journalism as we understand it doesn't exist in Gaza. Any "interview" that doesn't fit the pre-determined narrative doesn't ever happen. There is no news that comes out of Gaza, just state approved propaganda.

And no, nothing in that link indicates Israeli state policy. That is just the narrative that confirms your own biases.

Here is the link Victor provided of what took place at Sde Teiman. Not great obviously, but the detention camp was opened a few months, was closed because of allegations of abuse, and now there is multiple investigations into what happened.

And as in most cases, most of the rhetoric taking place in this thread is way over the top as to what actually is reported to have happened and what the scope was.

Also, isn't it nice that Israel is a (imperfect) liberal country with laws allowing for a free press and investigations into abuse of prisoners. Much better than widespread threats, torture, kidnap and murder of anyone that gets out of line that is the S.O.P. in most of the totalitarian states trying to destroy Israel. Especially Hamas, where there is videos floating all over the Internet of street executions.

As I have mentioned before, it is very disingenuous how most leftists sympathetic towards authoritarian right wing Islamists use the fact that there is free reporting of Israeli's flaws as proof Israel's enemies (who allow no free reporting) are ethically superior.

Maybe it no so much towards some right wing govt. More to people, regular people, getting killed / starved / living in prison.

It wouldnt suprise me if all the rape and tortue allegations are true but none of this is anything more than a flat earth youtube vid. Its noise for whos hungry and vulnerable.

Palestinians are treated as cattle from everyone around them. On one end, if you wanted to kill as many Palestinians as possible, youd do exactly what hamas
did - and I am not going to be convinced that hamas is really this dumb.. Israels response isn't at all surprising considering how much they hate each other.
