Ukraine-Russia War Take 2
Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:
The site was hit with a massive spam attack where hundreds of spam threads were created. In the case where, for example, I see a single spam thread and delete it, that is called a soft delete, and mods can still see them but forum members cannot. Those deletion can be undone.
When a massive attack hits with hundreds of threads, an admin uses a different procedure where the hundreds of spam threads are merged and then hard deleted, where the threads are gone, and no note is left behind. As I have mentioned with my own experience of just soft deleting a large number of posts, sometimes a post or thread gets checked or merged accidentally and is deleted by mistake. Dealing with hundreds of spam threads takes a sledgehammer, not a scalpel.
It appears that our Ukraine thread may have gotten caught up in that recent net of spam threads. If so, it is likely gone for good. I cant say this for sure, and am awaiting comments from admins on this issue. Yes, this sucks. And hopefully there was some other software glitch that caused the disappearance, and we may recover it in the future.
But in the meantime, I have created this new Ukraine-Russia War thread to enable the conversation to continue. Obviously continuity with earlier discussions will be lost. There is no way around that. So as best as possible, let's pick up the conversation with recent events and go from there.
If you have any questions about this, please post them in the mod thread, not here. Let's keep this thread going with posts about the war, not the disappearance of the old thread.

That is not why most Americans want to help Ukraine fight against Russia's unprovoked invasion. I've posted many of the reasons why already: forced deportations, kidnapping, brainwashing, sexual violence, mass executions, extrajudicial killings... you know the drill or if you don't then you've kept your eyes shut.
Calling anyone Putinesque while repeating two Russian narratives to dehumanize Ukrainians and downplay their plight is... just wow.

Luciom, pro tip for conversing with other people: Don't split their sentences to make them have a completely different meaning then try to prove that new meaning is incorrect. Read the entire sentence and what it is replying to and it should be pretty clear what is being said.

Your sentence had a specific claim, i just answered to that claim.
Most Americans are only interested in international politics because to them it's like watching the Olympics on TV, which is why the "analysis" itf is so risibly poor.
Saying that millions of people across the world should die ("fight to the last man" indeed) so you can claim victory from your armchairs against your mortal enemy is itself Putinesque.

I disagree. For as many bans as there have been for outright bigotry and racism, Victor has been on the receiving end of bans simply for having the audacity to say “I think everyone else is wrong”- the greatest affront to the group thinkers.
You couldn't be any more wrong about this. If people talked about the Gazans like he talks about the Israelis they would be banned by you or at minimum threatened with timeous. I think you look at things through a very filtered lens. I don't think you have ill intentions necessarily although there may be some bias involved. That being said, I don't think anybody should be banned for expressing their feelings especially in an emotionally charged thread like I/P. We are now seeing that there can be some heated takes in these threads without the involvement of MODs.

there is a significant amount of Americans who are ok with the kind of help USA gave to Ukraine till now, a quarter who want to do more, but half either don't give a **** or are actively against that.

The post I was responding to suggested Victor had been unfairly maligned for speaking truth to power, which was what I was disagreeing with. I was not offering myself as a negative control.
I mean Bill Haywood thematically is pretty similar to victor, but without most of the bigotry and dehumanization. And no one is banning him or has even suggested such an action AFAIK, so I would say he is a counter example illustrating the assertion being made wasn’t a good one.

In order to prove the point you wish to make you need to show that 83%+ of the people who put down "too much" don't think 90% of the current aid level is appropriate, or 70% or 50% or 30% or 10%, they think exactly 0% aid should go to Ukraine.
To recap: you did not attempt to address the claim I made. Instead you attempted to address a claim you wanted to address, but you did not properly do that.

It actually wasn't contentious until the later part when Trump, diplomatically in my opinion, indicated Zelensky would have to make some kind of small compromises. Early on Zelensky was just spouting all this nonsense, lying about Russia not honoring a prisoner exchange which they, in fact, did execute. The nerve of this little weirdo.
When is the little guy going to take off his fake military clothes and put on a suit? After the last Ukrainian is sacrificed? Zelensky and I both have the same amount of military service - none. I don't admire the little guy. I don't claim to be a big man. I don't know how I would perform on a field of battle. But of this I am certain - I would never let Boris Johnson tell me **** and run my foreign policy. I would have had the balls to make a peace deal with Russia because I'm not going to cower before any neo Nazi losers either.
