In for repair rants

Daughters car had an exhaust pipe corrode and crack
Then her battery died.. instant death
Then my other daughter pressed her feet into the windshield and cracked the windshield

$2000 in one month (USA #1 dollars) and I even did the battery myself

2018 with like 60k miles… not some old old clunker

Windshield place kinda ripped me off, wife set up that deal

My Cybertruck blew up in a firework accident earlier this month. Car problems just never stop do they?

On the mattress front, anyone have recs for someone who hates plush tops and likes a pretty firm mattress, but not so firm your arm falls asleep if you lay on your side?

We went with Simmons Harmony Lux

Went with a sleep number bed. Mrs. Venice and I have radically different opinions on the firmness of the mattress. We both get what we want. If the firmness isn't right, just change it, don't hate it.

AzDaughter1 has a sleep number, which they seem to really like. I may ask her more about it.

In other daughter related news, I guess I'm going to be a Father In Law! He finally popped the question. But without consulting me first, so I'm not sure I'll allow it. (Kidding!)

I can't remember, do I give or get the goat?

I had a sleep number for several years. But moved to Tempur-pedic 4 years ago and satisfied with it.

Sabr, tells us more about your father when you feel up to it.

We all in for new mattresses this year? I'm definitely in the market. Who sleeps good, and what are you sleeping on?

No one told me you were supposed to rotate the mattress.

I got a battery replaced at O'Reillys by two black women. Even outside of Scottsdale it seems statistically unlikely.

Something about entrails.

@Mods - when does this guy get his “LLSNL Allen Kessler” undertitle?

Ya’ll are slacking.

That's what you get for quitting. Opportunity lost, imo.

I have no idea what's going on.

played limit for first time while waiting for an nl spot

it was 4/8 and despite only having a rough understanding of limit, i easily felt like i was probably the 3rd or 4th best player at the table, strongly considered staying there once name was called but biggest pot i saw was like $35 so was an easy pass

but definitely felt beatable

go to nl and open $20 after utg limps with AQs and some donkey with $94 in his stack who's played every hand minclicks it to $40, if he had more i fold but he doesn't and figuring i'm behind but offchance i'm flipping or even ahead so i just put him in and his kk holds up (dude legit considered folding, had no clue, and no, was not a slowroll)

and in terrible news, i'm helping watch the kids of the people i'm staying with as the stay at home mom had to leave to take care of her mom and husband works, so i left 45 min before the kid gets home for a 25 min drive and traffic means i get there 10 minutes after the bus drops him off

worst part was i was so far ahead on time that i was just on auto-pilot while stuck in traffic and wasn't watching the clock because i assumed i'd have gotten back in time no problem

parents are acting like it's fine, but i'm sure i broke the trust of two very good friends - when i have a 5 figure losing day i shrug it off like no big deal, but this is devastating (kid is fine, it thought it was a cool adventure going to the neighbor's house for a little bit)

dont beat yerself up mang. if it was my kid i would completely understand. you did everything right and got unlucky. let em know again how bad you feel and im pretty sure they will say its 100% kewl

being as u r a rich gambooler make the kids day and buy em sumpin they really want as an apology - yer stock will soar

Kind of depends on how old the kids are 😉 But it was only 10 minutes -- should be no biggie.

You should try playing higher stakes LHE. It's a blast when you are used to NLHE, but they do get much better!

The rake will decide whether a low stakes Limit game is beatable... and if it is, it won't be by much, imo.

Before switching to the dark side, I logged 1,354 hours at 2/4 Limit for $1.98/hr and 466 hours at 4/8 Limit (with kill) for $7.09/hr. But both games had a 10% rake up to a maximum of only $3. Increase that maximum rake by pretty much anything (which actually prompted my move to NL), and eliminate the kill, and you're going to have difficulty beating it for anything tangible (even playing with the worst of the worst). IMO.

I love playing limit, but I have to drive 3-4 hours for a 20/40 that runs once a week. No thanks.

very low stakes limit is typically filled with blue haired people who have only a passing knowledge of how poker is even played. idk if that low of stakes in limit is beatable with the rake, but iirc, a good hourly at limit is like 1-2 BB/hour, which is not very much in real $s

short stack min clicks, ime, are almost always close to/or nutted hands. disrespectful fold everything but nutted hands (AQs is almost def not ahead of their nutted range)

kids age is relevant. if they're like 10, its def not a big deal. if they're 6, it would depend on the kid. normally momma bears are not shy about protecting their cubs, so i would expect if it was a problem, you would know. if parents are saying no big deal, i wouldn't worry about it.

the kid in question is 7, the other one who is 10 was not involved since she had an afterschool thing (which i thankfully was on time to pick her up for)

yeah the parents seems very chill about it, i am still on nanny duties so at least they didn't feel the need to replace me

the dad was even showing me the ring video of his kid trying to figure out what to do and he found it hilarious where the kid starts with "huh nobody is home" to 30 seconds later just pacing with "what do i do, what do i do?" - i didn't find it funny, just made me feel even worse about it but he found it hilarious, which is a great sign

but man, like i don't know when the last time i felt that kind of concern for anything was - it's almost as you could package this experience and sell it as a retreat for uncles

i now have way more empathy for when my siblings and friends are super worried about seemingly trivial stuff - like last night i was telling the dad if he came to me with "omg my kid was stuck outside for 10 minutes after school" i would have mocked him for worrying about it, telling him it was fine and this was probably good for the kid to face a little adversary whereas now i can be like oh no, i know the kid is going to be fine 99.99% of the time but all you can think about is that .01%

and yeah some of these places in seattle run 20/40 and 30/60 limit games each time i'm in a card room they got one going so i'm strongly considering learning that game if i stay out here (tiny chance of that, there's surprisingly affordable housing downtown which is a huge positive but no dfs at all and needing to drive to place wagers really sucks and the weather is terrible but seattle has a good tech scene so it offers a good path to reclaiming an old tech career)

it's funny with limit, i remember back in 2007 two of the badregs i played with regularly stopped playing so much because they were talking about playing limit online, at the time i thought i thought it was because they were losing too much in the nl games we played in, especially since they said their goal in playing limit was earning one big bet per something i can't recall, they explained it as they were just following a set of rules, that if you follow those rules you can't lose in limit (but the upside was capped) and they offered to coach me in exchange for a portion of my profits

i didn't see the big picture, mostly because i had zero respect for these two as poker players (one had briefly dated my current gf at the time long before i'd met either (she wasn't a poker player or groupie, just a wild coincidence) so i'm sure that played a factor in my disdain for him)

but i often wonder about moment and what would have happened if i took them up on their offer and learned limit and entered the world of online poker pre black friday

Perhaps this will make you feel better Rick. I was usually a pretty responsible kid although I got into my share of trouble.

When I was 18 or 19 I got a gig in the summer baby sitting a kid who was 8 or 9. I would pick him up from a sports camp around 2 and then hang out with him / mostly play basketball until his mom came home around 530/6.

A few weeks into the job, I threw a rager bc my parents were out of town. Long story short, I fell asleep on the couch but left my cell in another room.

I woke up late to like 20-30 calls / voicemails.

I missed picking up the kid but thankfully a parent of a friend of his picked him up and they hung out until I got over there.

The mom was pissed (warranted) however the dad who was bitter about his divorce somehow took my side (I wasn’t fighting, just apologetic).

The mom wasn’t able to find another sitter so I kept the gig the rest of the summer.

I guess the morales are 1. People have ****ed up way worse without good reason 2. People are in dire need of childcare and subpar care is still “worth it”

Miami did you ever play with Tommy Goldstein in DC underground games? He lost at least a million a year over 5 years in those games I was playing. But sounds like he went bigger in recent years.

Don’t believe we ever crossed paths. I just skimmed the lawsuit and he was playing HUGE.

in new instances of mod over reach a new user has popped up in bfi and starts past posting all his winning trades

i point out that if he wants credibility he should post them as they are made, otherwise he's probably just doing this with the intention to scam

i've previously been an active poster in his thread discussing other stuff with him prior to him beginning this tout stuff

of course mike haven deletes that post calling out that behavior and pms me a warning not to do so in the future

absolutely insane we now have mods actively protecting scammers on this website

Nima Jooyandeh was an alleged tout with infinity+1 pickmonitor accounts.

Edit: LOL. Rick is our Minority Report computer now.

mark i never called the op a scammer, i just said that there wasn't any value in past posting winners unless he had the intention to scam so he should either post them live or not post them at all - that is the post that got deleted

but he's probably intending to scam, i've seen this exact thing play out a million times with sports betting scammers, they just start off sharing their winners after the fact, builiding up a following of idiots, and then finally announce, ok i'm launching a paid discord to share my picks
