The Monster Stack - the best value tournament in the season IMO - is underway today. I'll be playing Flight D on Saturday, but I'll be very curious to see what the field turns out to be this year. They've added a 4th flight to this event, just a year after adding a 3rd, but they also eliminated the 1 same-day re-entry per flight they used to allow. That seems like a curious dec

Monster stack has never been same day re-entry. In fact people ask so much, its a bit by Kevmath in previous years

Hello! Sent an email to WSOP+ app helpdesk email asking some questions; will post answers once received. 1. Is there a means to prevent display of my name to other players at my table/event? I understand that the dealer needs to be able to see my name to verify seating. Can my nickname be displayed instead? Making my name visible to players at my table is an uncomfortable p

3b. Technically not allowed to enter same flight but it might let you anyway.

1. Yes -> By switching to Display Nickname? If so, how can I change the nickname I provided when account was created?

Anyone know whether seat assignment is based on WHEN event registration was done? For example, if an event oversells earlier than 1 hour before start time, will someone who registered the night before be guaranteed a seat or will the player face the possibility of being an alternate?

In prior years I typically registered for an event the night before, especially one with an expected large turnout. Not only did this avoid the morning registration crowds but guaranteed me a seat and also increased the likelihood that the seat was in a section less likely to break.

by Dr. Meh m

My understanding is you aren't getting blinded out as a seat hasn't been officially assigned to you yet.

But I could be wrong.

Until someone more knowledgable weights in…

I played in the colossus 2 days and the $800 deepstack but registered a few levels after level 1. I had no wait time. As soon as I registered for a tourney I got my table assignment - never broke stride from my hotel room to my table.

Maybe if you register right at the start time of big field tourney there is a chance you are an alternate but I doubt it. Both of the big field tourneys I played in there were 2+ empty seats at my table and all the tables around me waiting for players to register.

I don’t see much upside of registering before you are ready to sit but maybe I’m missing some EV somewhere here.

You "can't " because its linked to your gg account/gg pass. Might be able to get around it by creating a new account and reverifying it if they allow that.

I think if you can somehow get on the gg client, you can also pay to change it? Not sure on this as I don't play on gg

Yeah with the app, just reg before you're gonna sit down unless you somehow want to scope your table.

The last flight of MM had a short waitlist because they were filling seats as it busted but it went fast and the app would tell you your spot and then assign you a seat when available.

1. In the app settings you can toggle between displaying real name or nickname. It just won't let you change the setting while you're in an active tournament.

2. Yes you can. You still have to be verified and will have to stand in line to deposit cash ($2500 minimum) if you choose to pay that way. But once you have verified and added cash you can register through the app with no additional lines.

Note that you still have to stand in line to cash out winnings. Your winnings doesn't automatically go into your cash deposit for buy-ins. You have to cash out then deposit the cash back into your buy-in account.

Not sure about 3a or 3b.

Just tried to purchase/get a 10k refund through the app/Luxon Pay and it worked almost instantly Which is great, as I will await until the day I get there to buy into the PLO Championship, just in case (of the low equity likelihood) I get turned down by the USA border. Speaking of which, question for international players : how has been your experience this year crossing the

There are some travel restrictions. Might have a longer wait if you're coming from Iran, for example.

WSOP+ helpdesk replied promptly to my emails, including clarifying ambiguous answers; well done Helpdesk team! Here's details (including my opinions) about the questions/topics:

1a. You can choose to display nickname instead of real name; however, this doesnt seem to provide any privacy/anonymity: Someone can click your displayed nickname, which brings up your WSOP.com profile, including your real name and all your WSOP-related results. My concern is the potential nutcase who cant handle getting busted and gets easy access to my identity; ladies might feel concerned about potential stalkers. Call me paranoid πŸ˜‰

1b. Helpdesk confirmed that to change nickname requires deleting account and creating a new account using a DIFFERENT email address; the initial email address remains tied to the original nickname.

2. Yes, no contact with humans or lines needed to re-enter.

3a. Brief email answer was that unregistering can be done through the app; however, answer didnt address the within-24hr-before-event-start issue and the verbiage I have seen related to unregistering is ambiguous. More clarification needed.

3b. Email answer was that re-registering is allowed as long as registration is still open. For the scenario I mentioned (making D2 of an earlier event), having to un-register next day's event is no longer relevent; see next answer.

4. I asked whether someone who registered before event sold out would be guaranteed a seat; the clarifying answer was that everyone who registered before capacity fills would be assigned a random seat in the order of registration; once capacity fills, new registrants would be alternates and be seated in the order they registered. So, I no longer see the need to register for next day's event while still in an event in progress; I can wait until I bust out or bag.

FWIW, I play at WSOP, Wynn, and Venetian events during my summer visit, and since only WSOP allows advance registration I typically advance register for several events of interest to avoid needing to go from Wynn or Venetian to Paris solely to register or unregister for a WSOP event starting next morning; especially if I bust or cash at Wynn or Venetian in the wee hours.

Thanks to all who weighed in with thoughts!

Yeah, that part is as ridiculous as always. You wait in line. Then wait some more. Then finally go sit in front of a person who verifies everything. Then she prints out a physical piece of paper, and walks it over to the other side of the room with you and hands it to another person, who finally pays/or regs you if the prize was an entry into another event.

BTW pig4bill, the donkeys in the monster stack got me the same way they got you in the Collosus.

Giant bets, treating 100s of BBS like it was 30 BB, you know the deal.

About 20 minutes into the tournament I got all in with a set vs a turn overbet jam (in a 3-bet pot).

Villain had an open-ender and binked the river.

Was disappointing to be out so quick when I was looking forward to some real poker.

What're you going to do though. Sometimes 17%ers are going to 17%.

Your name has always been posted for day 2 & beyond. Get over yourself.

And in several international midstakes series as well, where the player names are posted on the screens for all to see.

by akashenk m

I think it’s a compromise. This used to be a freezeout event.

Monster stack is still a freezeout.

Monster stack is still a freezeout.

It most certainly is not.

What kind of shitshow will the Salute To Warriors be on Sunday do you think? Single day 1, $500 entry, one re-entry, 3-day event. ~4500 entries last year, steady growth Y/Y. I'm arriving Saturday to get verified. Wondering if I should late reg. Any clue when the money bubble bursts? Getting pretty antsy, long drive Saturday...

Per Google:

Based on the search results, the money bubble burst in the 2024 WSOP Salute to Warriors tournament (Event #67) at the end of Day 1, on June 28, 2024.

By the end of Day 1, only 678 out of 4,517 players remained, meaning all these players finished in the money. The play continued until only 15% of the field remained, ensuring that those players who finished Day 1 had already earned a payday.

It's gonna be wonky this year because they put it on day 2 of the Monster Stack, so you're going to have maybe 1-2k people busting that tournament and then trying to jump into the Salute. I can't advise you on late reg. That's your call, but fully expect the event to balloon in size over the first 4-5 hours as all the Monster Stack exiles jump in. Personally, I would want to be in my seat from level 1 to play with all the bad players at the start instead of all the late reg Monster Stack players. Hopefully you get a soft starting table and it holds together while most of the late reg waves crash elsewhere.

40 minute levels in an event like this typically means bubble late day 1. Maybe bag 10%? You can check PokerNews 2024 day 2 page to see how many players returned.

What is the wifi situation in the tournament areas? Do they have it and if so is it any good?

WiFi is terrible, almost non-functional, had to rely on mobile data throughout

It's been working decently for me tbh. Then again, I really only use it during breaks.

So far have only played in Horseshoe. Can't comment on Paris.

That is weird! I wouldn't expect that kind of foolishness in a $1500 event. That could be why many pros max late reg, they're less likely to run into those people. I think you can reg until very late at night, like maybe 9 or 10 pm.

One "advantage" to regging at the start is the possibility of a rebuy if he gets knocked out. Although he may not want to spend another $500. Good luck! Wish I was there.

Pros reg late but the summer is effing lonnnggg (and because of the ICM gained EV).

Id rather be playing against these guys than the dudes I was playing with last year. One Mucked 2nd nut flush to my multiway all in river pot bet for about 60bb. Please give me the idiots, I wanted to throw up
