John's got the itch to travel, that's all.

He probably likes to drink & dance all night too.

I have never seen this. A rainbow on the water (not a reflection).

rainbows are what we get when sunlight refracts and reflects off our tears

beautiful image John, hope you are able to soak it all up on your trip

Irish golf. Because every golf course should come complete with a castle.

This is exactly what I picture an Irish golf course to look like.

very cool, John. I'm quite jealous, but happy for you.

leprechaun caddies ftw

Visited the church where my great grandfather was baptized. Also Padington Bear. And one more golf course picture.

Looks awesome John! Seems like a great trip.

John met his hero!

Just finished packing and getting on a plane for Vancouver tomorrow. Then I get on a cruise ship on Saturday for an Alaskan adventure! The ports are Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. I've been to Ketichikan and Juneau before but it will breat to see the glaiciers and fjords again. Then off the boat and on a train to, lets call it the mountain. Staying at two different "mountain" lodges. One is called Denali Lodge and the other is called Mt McKinley Lodge. So all bases are covered 😀

Anyway really looking forward to it. I haven't been on a ship since my last Naval reserve cruise in the late 80's. Looking forwad to being out to sea again. Hopefully the weather won't suck.

Enjoy Mrbaseball. Sounds great.

So now we learn the real reason for the trip. I was always a little skeptical about the golf.

I see the cow pasture. Where did they put the links? Somewhere out of the wind?

My question is the jacket? It is pretty much smack dab middle of summer? Jackets are needed? I will admit I'm bringing a windbreaker to Alaska but really hoping I don't need it.

Really cool stuff, John.

Have fun mrb. I'd guess a windbreaker, maybe with a hoodie under for warmth as needed, will be fine. Best of luck seeing awesome things like wildlife, glaciers, et cetera.

My summer "outfit" is cargo shorts and a t-shirt. I will also have a pair of cargo pants and a long sleeved t-shirt for layering (Sheldon Cooper style) if needed. And a windbreaker if it really sucks. But current weather reports say 60's and 70's so I am hoping for cargo shorts and t-shirts. Altough I have heard it can be rainy? Rain sucks balls on vacation but I have some cheapo disposable panchos just in case.

not trying to naval gaze
but one should never underestimate potential winds when on an alaskan summer ship

Exhausted after getting home from Ireland. What's with this the crew hasn't arrived, so there will be a short delay? Hour delay from Newark to Boston.

So despite being exhausted, I'm going to NYC with two girl friends. One had a birthday a couple days ago, so I decided to stay at the Pierre Hotel. Frick Museum reopened after a five year renovation, so going there especially to see a couple Vermeer loans that should pair nicely with the three Vermeers the Frick owns. Also planning to go to the Cloisters, the part of the Met Museum I've never been to. Al Pacino's Looking For Richard was filmed there.

That's about it. I might even try to get another short trip in before September.

I loved the links courses. I really suck at golf these days, but it's still fun.

If you grew up playing on public courses, links are the best. If you want a more manicured, user-friendly experience, they are an unrelenting shitstorm. I love links.

I learned to play golf at Oscar Bloom, 9 holes, only par 3s, $1 to play. They even had lights so you could play at night. As a kid I couldn't understand why people thought golf was elitist. Literally across the street was Springfield's best public course, now named after local legend Payne Stewart and his father.
