Flu & Covid vaccines this morning for me as well. Also got the HVAC inspection scheduled for tomorrow. Had to turn on the new system for the first time.

Kinda a big morning for me. This says a lot about how boring my life is.

I think I have the flu

I went on a tour of the Houses of Parliament today. Turned out it was a good time to go, as the politicians are away at their respective annual conferences. The guide got everyone to say where they were from, and it was mostly Americans. They were asking questions trying to figure out how our political system works, particularly the House of Lords. I asked where the terms left and right wing come from, which the guide didn't know, so I thought I'd asked a neat, smartass question, but google says it's from the French revolution, so nothing to do with parliament.

No PEDs, supplements, support gear, spotters, nutritionists, chefs, masseuses or whirlpools. Norb Schemansky (5’11” 260), 1954 World Championships in Vienna, approximately 415lbs about to be lifted overhead to win the Gold, then returned gently to the floor.

Norb gave some great, barbed wit, bittersweet interviews in the β€˜90s. Lived on β€œPolish sausage, pizza & beer”. Joe Weider once said if he could have any physique it would be β€œSki’s”. Beloved by fellow lifters & European fans. Ignored at home. Clashed repeatedly with coaches, USOC brass, and employers. Died at 92.

"Left" in Latin is "sinister." "Right" is "dexter."

Only thing I learned from two years of high school Latin.

I had three years and all I learnt was ambulo means I walk.

Met my cousin tonight for dinner. He works for a foundation that sponsors classical performers to give concerts for people who don't usually hear much classical music. He lives in California, so we try to get together when he does concerts in the area.

I asked him if he's met my daughter. He didn't think he had. We leave the restaurant and guess who's sitting at the bar having dinner with a co-worker?

Yup.

Some day Stevie Wonder is gonna die, and suddenly the world will remember what a musical genius he is. For about a week or two, then he'll go back to being forgotten.

And yet everybody has all the time and attention in the world to glorify and obsess over the crap that passes as pop music now.

Did anyone not see this coming?

I am touched that you still remember. My studies are doing fine. I have no rush to complete anything, so I am still a student in good standing but I had to drop a few classes last semester to do other things; i’m more of a part time student/adult learner rather than youthful student. I was never a good formal student. I have about 100 college credits from the times Ive randomly decided to attend.
Even so gd school is so comforting. Everyone is so nice.

Bryce, did you ever get sober?

Bryce, did you ever get sober?

Yes, I did. I had to stay sober as part of a diversion deal I had with the government. I was sober for a year, which mightve suprised some people that I could actually stay sober for a year. After that, I spent a good amount of time partying in NYC where I attempted to run a business. But when I moved back to Kansas I rarely drink now. That year changed my relationship with alcohol and other things. I have a partner now.

After spending my entire adult life purchasing crappy $30 frying pans every few years I picked up a set of All Clad nonstick frying pans. A set of 3 (12, 10 and 8 inch) cost me $210 CAD. I realize I could have gone stainless steel, saved a bunch etc but my wife wants to stick with nonstick so they're easier to clean and easier for her to cook with. I do a majority of the cooking but she gets involved, too.

What are some other essential pieces for the kitchen? Stuff that's worth spending a few extra dollars on. My brother recommended a good wooden cutting board, that's next on my list.

do you have a quality rice cooker? i think the most important thing, assuming you’re only cooking for a small number of people is to have a system that works. what are three healthy meals you want to eat, and one junky meal and then find out the right tools you need for those, then a list of 25-30 or so ingrediants and find out what works for you and your space. Thats how i cook.

that way you can easily buy and maintain what you need, refill and replace what you need and clean up quickly.

Yes we have a rice cooker for two, that gets a fair amount of use in our place. I also have an Instant Pot, and a slow cooker.

Most of my meals consist of: burritos/tacos, steak+potatoes+veggies, eggs (fried/scrambled/hard or soft boiled)+bacon+sausage+toast, pasta about once a month, baked chicken thighs/veggies, taco salad (browned beef with salad), stir fry with rice. I also keep things simple with deli meat sandwiches, wife is a big fan of my grilled cheese sandwiches. With fall/winter rolling around we'll be cooking more soup and chili in our instant pot and slow cooker. Pot roast is another favorite of mine, surprisingly low effort with high reward.

Your wife being a big fan of your grilled cheese is adorable. I think the reason I wrote my post the way I did is because its much easier for me to cook something nice for myself than to ve the one who cooks like you need consistency there, and thats not like that hard for me but cooking and cleaning every day is kind of challenging if you know what I mean?
I used to cook steaks but have moved away from red meat, so i make a lot of dishes out of chicken rice, salmon, vegetables , sweet potatoes. I also make burritos which are actually fairly low effort high reward.pasta is very easy.

Of course they are. They're in 3rd place in a 5 team division.
