Get yourself something that cooks a good breakfastPS This is really my own frying pan, not some library image.

Beans? Must you?

suspicious lack of grilled tomato

The Irish breakfast is basically the same but adds black pudding, white pudding, and soda bread. It is filling.

that's a beauty! I have an electric skillet I use frequently for cooking breakfast. My favorite thing to cook in there is a package of bacon, then I add a bag of hash browns, then add onions, chop up the bacon, put the bacon back in and crack a bunch of eggs in there to glue them all together. damn i wish i made that this weekend.

I lucked out on FB marketplace this weekend. Some dude was selling his Boos Block, think he wasn't using it at all. it's a beast! 24"x18"x2.5" it weighs 30 pounds! I oiled it up (2 coats) and added wax, it turned out so pretty! Here's the before and after

Oh I must.

Have to do more bacon, and some fried slice in a different frying pan though, not enough room.

Not even sure if fried slice has made it to you colonials though.

mr b, have a good trip up north. Get some Spotted Cow!

Always a priority! I only got 3 12 packs though. I have been actively trying to drink less beer (due to carbs) and still have a case left from my travels up north this summer. The scarcity component definitely adds to my enjoyment of it.

egg to other stuff ratio is seriously flawed in that example

Today is my birthday, but it's also the date that one of my friends died. After playing golf, Tim and I would sit, talk, and have a drink. I had one; Tim had three. He had prostate cancer, so a few extra drinks wouldn't hurt.

At Tim's funeral, our other friend, Bones, delivered the eulogy. (When I was in grad school, the three of us shared a house.)

I don't know if people get into disputes during a eulogy, but Bones and I did. See, Tim had this annoying habit of playing Frampton Comes Alive almost every night. During the eulogy, Bones casually mentioned what happened to that album. He claimed that I smashed it to bits. I claimed that he did. Finally, since neither of us could actually remember, we decided it was a group effort.

So, tonight, I'm listening to Frampton Comes Alive and wishing Tim and I could have gotten in a few more rounds together.

“Gonna get out on the road tonight, ‘cause I got a hollow in my head.”

“And even the best years leave a lot to be desired, and then they pass you by.”

Happy birthday, John!

Happy birthday John. In theory this could be the start of the best year of your life 😀

and the scotts with their haggis, all delicious when prepared with care

happy last century first cord-cutting anniversary John and high praise for your mutual disrespect for frankensteinian frampton resurection as if he has any sort of wild genes in his bones

Happy Birthday John!

Raising my glass to JC. Happy birthday

Happy Birthday John!

Keep on truckin, as they used to say in the 70s.

Happy Birthday to our own King Cole! Or is he the King of Colognes? Surely both.

Happy birthday John! Hope your day and your memories of Tim are nothing but good.

Birthday thrash in the Superleggera. Yessss.

Happy birthday, Johnny! I had a birthday a couple of weeks ago. I got a birthday present for the first time in over 20 years: a Dock Ellis rookie card. It's now my avatar. Perhaps the greatest birthday present ever!

Happy Birthday to you, Mack.

I also got a birthday present, Tam Dao, a Diptyque cologne.

Spent another nice weekend in NYC with two girl friends. Got in early Friday afternoon and went to an immersive show at the Arte Museum (okay but not outstanding), checked in at hotel, and then for a show at 54 Below, a small cabaret venue that holds a little over a hundred people. The performer was the guy who played Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. The ladies loved it (I did, too). They asked me how I find this kind of stuff (I look).

Saturday went to the Brooklyn Museum of Art, which I had never been to. I got to see The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago in person. Also watched a new film, Doors, by Charles Marclay. Unlike his The Clock, this one runs for 54 minutes. Basically, it's a number of shots lifted from films of people opening doors. One door opens, and on the other side we see another shot of someone else entering. For example, Peter Sellers as Clouseau enters through one door, and on the other side the door opens and a woman is running down a corridor to another door that opens and so on. I found it, like The Clock, mesmerizing. I also recognized a number of films used in the short clips. I'm also surprised that the two women really enjoyed it. They aren't huge film buffs.

After the museum, we went to see a Broadway musical, Death Becomes Her, based on the movie of the same title. Except for a couple dance numbers that opened the show, it was entertaining. Dinner at a nice French Bistro.

Spent Sunday strolling through Central Park after brunch (the weather was beautiful all weekend).

One of the women has taken me shopping, to appointments, and even waited six hours for me to finish class to take me home during two of the last four years when I couldn't drive for six months. I'm glad I can do something for her. And they bought me the cologne.

Oh, and if you're in NYC, go to Levain Bakery. They have the best cookies I've ever had.

My Aunt Ruth & Uncle Bill were married 81 years ago today (10/27); the two kindest, least judgmental, most generous & welcoming people to ever walk the Earth.

After 70 years, she’s still my best gal!

Interesting hand at the ol' bar-poker league last night. I dealt a straight flush on the board (5-9 hearts), first time I've done that.

All the chips went in three ways: each player had one of 10, J, Q of hearts.
