President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Maybe the Communion wafer (bread)?
Catholics believe that the communion bread is simultaneously both literal bread and the literal Body of Christ.
I think we'd be hard pushed to call the latter a rational thing that smart people believe in. Wtf does it even mean? It's obviously not the literal body of Christ, is it, it's a ****ing piece of bread.

Christ, literally.
Note well I'm not agreeing with the Catholic understanding of the Communion bread.
Chess?????
Got a busy day today, can't, sorry.
I don't recall e_d talking about eugenics.
I do know that e_d likes to talk about dumb white rural folks, but gets dodgy or even silent when asked about dumb black rural folks.
full disclosure: I'm dumb and white, but I live in the suburbs.
I mean, we could just stipulate that voting for Trump makes you stupid ipso facto and settle this debate once and for all.
To have voted for Trump in 2024 means 1 of 2 things:
1. You are an idiot, because you didn’t realize that Trump was going to do awful things when he has made clear exactly who he is and what he is about.
Or
2. You are an *******, because you wanted Trump to do what he is doing.
Half the voting populace is 1 or 2. This does not bode well for America’s future.
Given an all-powerful creator, how is it obvious? Is your mind so small and narrow it cannot conceive this? Yes, it won't hold up to scientific scrutiny - there is no proof for God - but that's why it's called faith.
Well forgive me if I hold a bit of contempt for the “intellectuals” who inspired the “Actually, sweetie, logic is our thing” podcast bros of the modern age. Those paragons of higher thought would barely differentiate themselves from MAGA conservatives in terms of their views of women. But sure, they’re a pantheon of genius, a veritable symposium of brilliance that still someho
Blaming people who lived more than 2000 years ago for modern podcast bros seems tenuous.
Also, no one is worshipping anyone. Discussing influential philosophers and scientists isn't the same thing as worshipping them.

You asked a question that showed you were not understanding the point of why dumb whites are not comparable to dumb people of other races as there is no good data to show other races change voting behavior if they simply learn more. If you accepted and understood the main point I'd gladly talk about whatever irrelevant tangent you want. But the fact that you think I’m being dodgy or I am censoring myself about low education blacks means you just aren't following the conversation.
Either I missed some posts about eugenics or people don't know the definition of eugenics.
Actually the point was much more circumspect, it’s about whether being a smart person means you can’t do things that are irrational, or can’t hold beliefs that are irrational.
You can fill in the blanks to try to strawman but I mean it’s kind of silly to do that because you’ll just be preaching to the choir.
I described it accurately. Do Trumpers irrationally beliefs allow us to say anything about their intelligence. That’s why Plato was brought up.

Probably not as much as you imagine. Human beings don't navigate the world like Dr. Spock. And some people are just contemptible. I'm sure that Steve Bannon would be above the median on whatever intelligence test, and I doubt he is delusional about what Trump is. Bannon is just a horrible person who wants horrible things.
Premise: White non college rurals do not vote the same as white science PhDs.
Premise: Black non college rurals vote the same as black science PhDs.
Conclusion: The high levels of stupidity of white rurals are a major issue.
I'm beginning to see why you couldn't' hack it as a philosophy teacher.

Mr Spock, if you don’t mind. The good doctor was the author of childcare books in the 60s.
But yes, you’ve made a point I was thinking about all through this derail. People here are obsessed with rationality, and of course it’s something to strive for, but it’s not frequently seen in the human world and an intermittent absence of it doesn’t denote a stupid person.
Plato was a very intelligent person, but he also believed in a pantheon of gods that no person in the modern era takes seriously anymore.
It's not clear how "seriously" Plato took the Greek gods to be, he was about as anti-dogmatic as they came. His idol and mentor was executed in large part because he questioned whether there was one god or many.

Unless you're and idiot, I suspect you can think of at least a third alternative if you seriously think about for at least two minutes.
