President Donald Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at

Progress will remain impossible while we continue to divide the world into smarts and stupids.

I'm open to the idea that all humans are stupid and always have been.

I don't really go for that. I'm more of a consubstantiation kind of guy.

I'm guessing you're either Episcopalian or Lutheran.

by Rococo

Also, no one is worshipping anyone. Discussing influential philosophers and scientists isn't the same thing as worshipping them.

It's similar to worship in that only like 0.5% of Plato's admirers and detractors have actually read his works in any detail. The Roganbros might quote from Cliff's Notes of The Republic, but they're not actually studying it.

I and millions others happily assert Trump has zero leadership abilities. You can't deny them because you have the intellect of an infected ingrowing hair follicle on the left testicle of a syphilitic rat.

What he does have is spectacularly good grifting abilities though. I cannot deny that.

That's neat but billions of people agree with me. I'd love to see you take your little tough guy act to the White House for a meeting with the Don.

All humans do stupid things is maybe more accurate. Most people are stupid and always have been is also, perhaps, more accurate.

Which leads to some people are smart, and smart people sometimes do stupid things.

And stupid people most often to stupid things.

I'm sure the bolded is correct. But it is probably correct about a lot of things.

Is discussion of Plato (whether informed or uninformed) some sort of big thing among Roganbros? That surprises me, but I don't listen to those guys, so I guess I wouldn't know. What is the point of the discussion?

by Rococo

Probably not as much as you imagine. Human beings don't navigate the world like Dr. Spock. And some people are just contemptible. I'm sure that Steve Bannon would be above the median on whatever intelligence test, and I doubt he is delusional about what Trump is. Bannon is just a horrible person who wants horrible things.

What may seem horrible to you may not seem horrible to him. This doesn't necessarily make him a horrible person. I have no issues for people going after what they desire.

I'm beginning to see why you couldn't' hack it as a philosophy teacher.

The fact I got hired at all is amazing, especially considering I didn't even have a Master's Degree.

Billions?

The only reason to be intimidated by a meeting with Trump is because he theoretically could bring the force of the U.S. government to bear on you because of the office that he currently holds. If Trump were replaced in 2028 by someone who was not a Trump bootlicker, then I am confident that I could tell Trump exactly what I thought of him to his face without sending my pulse rate above 80.

Surely you're aware that these guys have a fetish for performatively appreciating the trappings of classical Roman/Greek culture.

Unless you're and idiot, I suspect you can think of at least a third alternative if you seriously think about for at least two minutes.

It is quite possible that I am an idiot. Unlike most Trumpers, I am willing to concede that I am sometimes wrong.

With respect to the 2024 election, I have given it a great deal of thought and idiots and/or *******s is all I come up with as possibilities for Trump voters.

I would be willing to consider other possibilities, but I’ve yet to encounter one that doesn’t quickly devolve into the voter being either an idiot or an *******.

You’ve already conceded that you are in the idiot box, not the ******* box.

You asked a question that showed you were not understanding the point of why dumb whites are not comparable to dumb people of other races as there is no good data to show other races change voting behavior if they simply learn more. If you accepted and understood the main point I'd gladly talk about whatever irrelevant tangent you want. But the fact that you think I’m being

Fair enough.

But a similar point came up earlier, and you didn't even acknowledge that post. (And Rickroll even opined right after I posted that post that you wouldn't respond to it --- and he was right.)

That said, your point is well taken and thank you this time for responding to it.

I'm sure that mongidig will apply his convenient moral relativism across the entire political spectrum. And I hope that he holds the line even in the most extreme scenarios. In other words, if AOC is discovered eating the brains of infants tomorrow, I hope mongidig will be here to tell us we shouldn't condemn her because, although eating infant brains may seem horrible to most people, it may not be horrible to her.

I'm open to the idea that all humans are stupid and always have been.

The world is divided into the have and have nots. The have nots tend to be more stupid. They tend to make decisions that keep them in the have not category. For example, spending money on alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, tatoos, grubhub, and lottery tickets is not smart and will keep you poor.

The fact that he doesn't respond to every fool thing rickroll posts is hardly indicative of anything, especially not whatever kind of racist attitudes you're insinuating here.

Lack of qualifications is much less worrying than your inability to follow the simple points ecriture is making.

This would certainly be a horrible thing to do. I would absolutely condemn it. You shouldn't do that.

I was vaguely aware that some of that crowd had a Rome fetish. But I guess that I thought it was oriented at the level of the movie Gladiator. I didn't realize that they purported to be doing close readings of Lucretius and Plato.

I agree with this to a large extent.

But I think Grubhub is probably a poor example to make your point. I don't believe the "have-nots" typically use grubhub all that often.

by Crossnerd

And no I’m not mad about it, but I AM still extremely butthurt at having to rewrite a philosophy paper in college because the professor hated my conclusions.

I had a girl at work go to HR about me claiming I was harassing her and being mean too her. HR BTW didn't buy her story. I asked her why she didn't tell me that she was mad. She said, "I wasn't mad". I just left it at that and I now just stay away from her. We are pretty sure she is on drugs and has issues outside of work.

I see it every day at work. We have a perfectly good cafeteria with free food and yet these people order grubhub every day.

Do the have nots tend to spend money on private shows on OnlyFans and testosterone supplements?

Except I was specifically answering one of e-d's own posts. And e_d almost invariably engages my posts.

To be fair, I was almost certainly much better at comprehending simple points before I willingly (but stupidly) put my mental health in the hands of the Medical-Industrial Complex.

I was 'sharp-as-a-tack' (to coin a phrase) when I was hired to teach Philosophy at the age of 24.

I don't think CN is on drugs though.

Out of interest, were you bullied a lot at school, mongi?

An alpha like mongi? No way.
