Put on a Happy Face: Lounge LC Thread
Around here Spring will be a little late, but what the hell, I'll start the thread now.
I just can't take the abuse any
I get it John. It's nice to do something for others, especially when it's a surprise to them.
Two women came with me to Ireland a couple years ago. I paid for their flights and lodging.
They deserved it. One gave me rides when I had two seizures and I couldn't drive for six months each time. I had a class in Providence that is a 45 minute drive and began at 4:00 and went to 6:30. We would get there around 1:00 and she would wait until 6:30 to drive me home. Other times she would drive me to doctor appointments, food shopping, and a bunch of other places. She would bring me food. A few times she brought chili, and because I like Fritos wth chili, she would also bring bags of Fritos.
I'm glad I can do that kind of stuff for others who have helped me during difficult times.
And they were pissed when I told them we were all set with everything when we went.

I may have mentioned it before, I have a movie podcast I've co-hosted and produced for the past 12 years or so? Through attending film festivals I met my friend Will, the one who passed away recently. So my buddy and me dusted off our mics (we haven't recorded consistently in a long time!) and talked about him for a bit then talked about our top movies from 2025 and talked about some movies from this year. These new Google soccer doodles are hypnotizing me, not even joking. Literally messing with my mind. Who is it PelΓ© plays for again?
PelΓ© was from Brazil.
Today is my idiot brother's birthday. Now where did I put my party hat, can't seem to find it...
Hm, looks like ChiCom dictator Xi Jinping was also born today.
I had an idiot brother, in that he was impossible to get along with. He died, aged 62, five years ago this Wednesday.
By next week I may need your collective wisdom.
Played golf last week in 95Β° weather. Then met my friend for dinner where we sat outside for three hours (she and I average about three hours), and the temperature was still 95. May have dropped to 90 during dinner. I left my credit card behind. The first time I have ever done that.
Then I needed to go to urgent care for something just a little troublesome. No big thing.
As I have told you before, I have little to do during the summer, but this week I have too much going on. I'm not sure now that being a hermit is a bad thing.

My son-in-law is a cop in a suburb in RI. He's in charge of the day shift and usually doesn't need to patrol. These past few days he needed to go out.
First, guy walking down secondary highway naked (I asked Mark if he brought sun screen for him).
Next, a woman calls him to tell the police she's not crazy over and over. He recorded the last couple minutes of her call. She ends with calling him a pig and yelling "oink, oink."
Next comes Spitting Suzie. She shows up in town every month or so going into stores, causing trouble, and spitting at people. And yes she spit at him and a patrolman when they arrived to take her in.
The warm weather brings out the crazies.

My daughter recently became a sworn Animal Control officer. She has a badge and everything (not a gun).
If you abuse an animal anywhere in the county she will descend upon you with furious vengeance.
A couple years ago I went to see The Book of Mormon with my daughter and son-in-law. My granddaughter wasn't allowed to go because she was only fourteen.
Now, my daughter is taking my 16 year old granddaughter to see it.
We kept my son and daughter from seeing certain films and reading books we felt were inappropriate for them, but we also allowed more than most parents would when they were young. I think it was good for them.

Your daughter will see things she would never wish to see. It's a good thing she won't have a gun because she would want to use it on some people. I know I would.

yep. she got her start rehabbing the worst ones they rescued. neglect, everything. kittens found in dumpsters, etc. sheβd send me pictures like you can see this ones brain! then she would heal them and find them a long term foster.

My friend's daughter is a vet. She is often depressed by what she sees.
Your daughter is doing God's work (and I'm an atheist).

Oh, and to add to my son-in-law's crazy week, he picked up one guy who claimed Tony the Tiger was telling him to do stuff through the television.
I suppose it's as good an excuse as anything.

Re: seeing things to "early" in life. A friend of mine told me that his parents took him to see Taxi Driver in the theater, because they realized what a great film it was.
He was nine, IIRC.

Have you seen the show "Animal Control" on FOX starring Joel McHale? They don't really seem like serious people π
the last show i watched was game of thrones. done with that crap. now i just watch YouTube videos and birds.
i remember mchale from the soup. moderately passable entertainment. precursor to reaction content maybe.

My daughter wanted to read The Diary of Anne Frank in third grade. We let her. She asks her teacher a question, and the teacher tells her to go home and ask her parents, saying she couldn't talk to her about that book.

If you ever need to take that cognitive test and draw the time on a blank clock, be sure to ask am or pm.

I remember checking out Catcher in the Rye when I was 11 or 12 and the librarian flagged it to my mom. Mom told her I was allowed to read any book they had in that library and not to question me about it.
I don't even know what content in that book is supposed to be offensive. You can be sure there was a lot of it I wasn't picking up at 11 but I read it multiple times after that and once I got everything I didn't like the book as much.
What's offensive about Anne Frank, hiding her from the Nazis is now considered a faux pas?
Saw a couple people panhandling today with signs that said "Homeless." I had the urge to tell them that here in RI they might do better with "unhoused person."
Anyway, I have the first guy a couple bucks.

When people draw the clock all out of whack, do they realize it when they look back at it or does it continue to look perfect?
The movie Heavy Metal was a big player in my house when it came out, I was around 12 or 13. Cartoon spank bank material, hell yeah.
My daughter works in Boston and is enjoying the hell out of the Scottish soccer fans although they are apparently draining the beer taps dry.
