Daniel Negreanu's very own containment thread. All things Danny go here
how bad must he be when a girl falls asleep while making out and snores right after?
life fish..... food arrived but didn
Then we'd look at 20 years. Or tell all the data isn't available, so it's anybody's guess.
To me Daniel is an extremely talkative man, suiting his current role. Cares about poker.
He actually kissed the bracelet he won.
Increasing the rake is good for the game. Sure sounds like he cares about poker.
Come on
Daniel is a politician. He tries to say whatever you guys want to hear.
That is why Phil Hellmuth calls him a politician all the time. It's not a compliment.
There has been other posters in this thread from Toronto complaining about how high
the rake in Toronto is, and asking where is Daniel. Expecting him to try and leverage his
fame to help there own situation. But these guys are knuckleheads also. They are complaining
about the rake to a guy who said increasing the rake is good for the game. So WTF !!!!!!!!!

you seem mad
Because total net profit is tied to dollar amounts while Average ROI treats every tournament equally, you can achieve this by losing many cheap tournaments but winning a single expensive tournament.I'm not going to calculate it I don't care, but Daniel is probably minus ROI the last 10 years at the world series. He just won the big buy in events. Got super lucky too, one a high
I would probably say “prove it with the numbers” and you would respond with another moronic post reiterating you 1) have not done the calculations and 2) couldn’t do them correctly anyways.
15th of 50 in the 25k horse, 23 players play.
Even though he is a losing player, je seems real competitive in these high stakes events.
27 of 31, 23 places playing. Could bubble or mincash.
Busted, did not cash. Definitely a losing player.
He probably donked off his chips close to the bubble of the $25K HORSE, because he wanted to enter the $5K NLHE. What a fish!!! A losing player who couldn't beat $2/5NL.
He enters all these high buyin WSOP events, so he keeps getting lucky and winning the PPC or the $100K PLO. That way he can convince fish he is a top player and keep getting this huge endorsement contract. In fact, I read in this thread that he only won the PPC by getting lucky and hitting a 1-outer for a straight flush. Similarly, it is known that he does not know how to play PLO, despite calling it his jam. It is totally unfair that he has money to enter all these high buyin events and make it look like he is a top player when he couldn't beat the games at the local card room.
He is also a losing player for the last 5 years, if you count the Polk match and don't count this year. He is obviously a fish playing Polk HU knowing he would lose like a million. It is easy to get lucky in small field events with bad players if you have the endorsement money to play them. He luck boxed 2nd place in a $1M entry 12 years ago, but that was before solvers were widespread. That $7M profit should not count in his profits. He is a big dog against top NLHE MTT players now. He continues to blow all his sponsorship money on $250K+ events. He does sometimes mincash them and did luckbox a couple of wins in $300K events. It is easy to win these small field sit and gos.
Daniel was definitely a mega fish for a while in the higher buy-in games. Back before Triton the players were all touring the EPT high rollers and Daniel used to be a regular because the EPT is a Stars brand. He was getting absolutely torched for years in those. He kind of just stopped playing high buy-ins for a while except at WSOP. Now he seems to be doing much better in them, and he's definitely not a big spot in the field. He's playing much better and I think him starting to win a few events a few years ago (after like 11 years of no first place finishes or whatever it was) really helped his confidence and motivation to keep playing well.
He's a massively losing player if you don't count any of the tournaments he cashed in (where he obviously just got lucky).
Heads up-TLDR
Lotta nonsense going on in here. First, I'll get it out of the way and say Negreanu is obviously not a losing player. Being slightly up, break even, or down a little playing the biggest staked tournaments against the best players doesn't give a clear picture. But of course if he had to make a living playing poker, he'd find a way even if it was beating 100-200 mix.
The back and forth about his success or failure in these tournaments is a joke. Everyone on this site talks about variance and how a sample size of even a few hundred tournaments is not a ton of evidence one way or another. Although, him being able to at least hold his own (and especially being able to close tournaments) against other top players is a clear indicator he's competitive. A weak or average player would not be able to close those tournaments-it's not easy.
I initially liked Daniel when the poker boom started. But he's completely altered his personality and comes off as a big of a douchebag now a days. But that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge his skills and success.
I'll say this though, 2 things: as others have mentioned, a lot of these tournaments are indeed hundred or so people that he's having success in, and that's not unimportant.
Secondly, people talked about this factor with Ivey back in the day. Having a 700k check coming in every month (or they pay your buy ins) is pretty valuable to your confidence. Given what the full tilt guys were making 15 years ago, I'd say it's very likely Negreanu is making 5 million/yr. It'd make me play like i always had 3-4 drinks in me-a lot better.
I understand he antagonized people "saying more rake is better" as Stars' main pro when they raised the rake. I think his argument was high rake reduces the number of professional players, so it doesn't effect losing amateurs. You can be sure grinders didn't like hearing that from someone with a huge endorsement contract.
Anyone would think he was a doing great winning the PPC and $100K PLO, $300K buyins, etc. Because he publishes his wins or losses for the year, people can twist them that he is a losing player. As the other poster implied, even if he was breaking even, you have to be a very strong player just to do that when most of your buyin money is in $25K+ entry fees.
He wouldn't be able to get that sort of contract if he was really not a top player. That would effect his reputation.
He is probably playing a different line up because of the endorsement. He doesn't play that much. Then, as the other poster mentioned, he was getting crushed in EPT high rollers Stars was putting him into. Probably difficult playing top European pros.
Think his high stakes NLHE game has improved. He must have studied GTO for the Polk match. He probably did some further studying of GTO, and maybe did studying and/or got coaching on current approaches.
this guy planning on going to play in the Bahamas while leaving his wife with a one-month old is quite the lifestyle choice. yeah yeah they're going to have help but leaving your old lady with your newborn is pretty wild imo

It is his job; he’s not going on vacation. Lots of parents work very shortly after the birth of a child. Many are forced to due to the lack of paid parental leave the in US.
I guess the haters have now had to resort to taking jabs at Danny boys parenting skills lol, weird.
Im not pro DN or Anti DN just following this thread for the laughs, carry on.

lul at comparing him to someone grinding a 9 to 5. he literally said on the vlog that he doesn't need the money. so he'd only be going to chase down a meaningless award. congrats
It's not a meaningless award when your 'job' is just as much about being a superstar as it is collecting actual tournament winnings (if not more so).
if he was running off to play a juicy cash game in Asia I might come down more on your side. But DN's in a place where plays the most prestigious events, which is really not a lot at all, and is literally home the rest of the year. Amanda's probably good with that.

Lmao stop yo crying
He's works for GG poker who owns the brand. Generally speaking it's his commitment to show. It's a two week series, everyone will be fine.

Yeah and Negreanu is certainly in a financial position in his life where he doesnt need to. Ben Lamb just had a baby and missed the entire 2026 wsop because of it, Daniel actually drafted him and a couple times half jokingly complained that Ben was "pre occupied".

I just scratch my head at stuff like if he had to play poker for a living without the sponsorship he play 100/200 mix or whatever. He's had great success at 25K (and below ) mix, plo, and nlhe tournaments consistently throughout his career. He'd just play those, but of course he would probably lower variance like others do and sell stakes and do swaps.
And if/when he did supplement with cash it would be higher stakes where it would be private or semi private (Curated BS.)

True…3 weeks after birth of our first, I left my wife alone with newborn for 2 weeks to start a new job 2000 miles away. Then came back to close on the sale of our house, sent wife, daughter and dog, to stay with my mom and dad and I went back to new job for 5 more weeks. Even better was that prior to having our daughter and the first grandchild, my mom was lukewarm warm at best on my wife. Luckily 5 weeks later, and forever after that, mom completely changed wrt wife.
I wonder about some of the stats of other players in super high rollers. I guess Haxton gets people to buy action. He can't have lost all those millions of his own money. It would seem maybe better to play lower, rather than stall and wear a big mask.

Lmao stop licking his taint
no one said he, or Amanda or anyone else wouldn't be fine. and you have no idea what his "commitment" to GG is. any arrangement (if they actually have one) would let him out of a meaningless series for the birth of his first child
