GGPoker killing the HS poker dream?
Recently it has come out that they are planning on making VIP games (5k+) invite only taking a path which many feared co
Yeah why should pokersite offer poker at all, when it has value for some part of its customers. Can you just stop posting your utter nonsense takes?
Are you a troll or a fool? Poker sites offer poker for rake. Poker sites wish to offer access to whales for rake+ as access to whales has greater value. I realize you can't refute the point which is why you call it nonsense.

Who could ever imagine that someone who was invited to play the exclusive games against whales would support them??? Thanks for the honest and reliable opinion Jungle!

Anyways, i recommend reading this thread:
I had always thought many whales wanted to play the best in the world and knew they were -ev in games, especially as most HS whales are not stupid. I think having a VIP game is fine whatever but should also keep regular HS open tables for everyone to compete.
sick HS action

What's ironic is he makes a comment about players ghosting in these game as 'cheating the ecosystem' when he himself got caught up in a ghosting/cheating scandal only recently.
They are doing it because they believe they will make more money by doing it. In simplest terms by making sure favored players get given access to the whales with favored meaning the site gets a cut/uses access as part of a pay package. Access to the whales has value which is why the HS regs are whining that they are being restricted; why should the sites give away something that has value?
From what I read in the other thread, and I've heard this before, it's the cost to maintain the HS games in terms of deposits/withdrawals and security compliance. I don't think GG makes that much money from the whales or regs at HS compared with players in midstakes and lower stakes.
Which I guess it makes sense, games with relative low volume and high cost aren't that profitable for the room.
In fact several sites eliminated HS games above nl1k, but it seems GG thinks the games still have some value as a marketing tool for lower stakes and selling the dream. But as they stand I doubt they have that much marketing value.

I honestly dont think its the whales that are so strongly behind private games. My best guess its and break even and slightly winning players who want to keep the top players out. I mean if i were a **** reg i sure would like to have the whales all to myself

Youre oversimplifying in a way that seems disingenuous.
There are whales at all stakes. GG is only choosing to privatize high stakes.
In economics they might call it consumer-discriminatory. There are different rules for different participants in the market.
You can believe that's fine, but don't misrepresent it.

They also now give access to those games and staking players, such as shalamov, for 50% share of winnings

They may want to play the best in the world or at least those they think are the best when those guys are famous like Dnegs or Helmuth. They can tell their buddies they played with those guys. But very few whales want to sit in with the actual best in the world and challenge themselves. For the most part they aren't telling their friends about playing with Koon or Chidwick. Not saying those guys don't exist but it's rare. Just look at the high rollers. How many whales are in those fields?
Someone like David Einhorn seems to take poker very seriously and wants to challenge himself. And while he's a dog he's not exactly in there going crazy splashing around etc like a real whale. And even guys like him are outliers.
The old school pros understood whales want something for their money. Guys like Dnegs and Antonio Esfandiari are amazing at the social aspects of live poker. New school pros basically don't get it.

There are no whales at lower stakes. There are bigger fish but to call them whales is at best a bad joke. Just as there are predators at lower stake games but no one mistakes them for sharks.

this sounds like it's straight out of one of phil hellmuths 'how to beat online poker' courses from like 2006.
GG lowered the rake at 10/20 to 0.75bb instead of a 1bb cap, which is nice ig.

For online poker, A whale is a rec that loses at a much faster rate than the average, at any stake.
anyone experiencing the fact that GG retains the money as long as they can? with long delay for pending withdrawals, then asking for affordability check before other cash out...
Argueing they are facing a lot fo large withdraws right now. such a joke

i’m not surprised they are experiencing lots of large withdrawals. regs are probably doing a bank run on the site’s liquidity in order to start playing elsewhere.
it probably isn’t affordability checks they do on large withdrawals. regulators put heavy onus on AML (anti money laundering), and they’ll have to perform “enhanced due diligence” on any withdrawal over a limit. depending on how big the team is and how swamped they are, could take a few days given the unprecedented amount of withdrawals

No. Usually those affordability checks etc are regulation issues like in the uk. Luckily enough I don't have to deal with them and the cashouts have been fast enough.
I don’t know how many times I have to say this.. but people do realise other poker websites exist? That will literally offer high stakes, with far less rake?
I mean I don’t get it. Even if you trying using the “software is much better on GG” argument. The competitors are still 7/10 , 8/10 for software. So while not as good, they still do a very reliable job …
So the fact is.. it’s because they want bad players to play against. So the argument that “regs will battle” is utterly laughable. In that sense, I can actually agree with GG’s position. Ultimately it’s kinda funny the regs have created this situation… GG are here to make money too. Not have players sitting in a lobby for hours refusing to play each other
The amount of times I’ve seen over 20 heads up tables with 1 player sitting, yet apparently “regs will battle each other” hahah
So yeh overall I guess I’m saying.. other websites exist, but poker players themselves have kinda contributed to this too. So maybe now, people will start realising that actually other sites have pretty good poker offerings too
yes the only reason to play GG is because they allow fish from china russia etc that arent welcome on most other sites.
stars still offers normal hs tables with very very low rake, jump in 😉
