now, last night a buddy stopped by to trade me some usdt and he asked me about a plo hand, esp his river decision (jjt6s on j22r54) - he jammed 90% pot instead of 40% pot or even smaller to get called by a 2 or rivered 24. I told him about this hand Ben Yu and Ben Lamb played in the 50k ppc where Yu raised the turn in O8 on J432ss and Lamb called w A6ss. river ace, Lamb checks and Yu checks back. Sure you are dominating them in overall range matchup and you are scooping so much but against Lamb's river xc range you are at best getting half. So Yu's check back is wonderful. I don't have a good operating system to run monker but I am very curious how gto accounts for these spots. hope this example makes sense.

This is so awesome - Ted (separately, Ned and Adam) and I talking pit stuff and I show them numbers on the variance. Three standard dev encompass 99.7% of the events - it's a big and basic topic in particle physics but I never really felt it. FEEEEEEL IT! I mean, I always am able to do the calculations but man, at some point, you need to own it; mix it w your soul and feel the run bad and run good. And I can swear on my life, I never run bad.

NLH was never standard for me; I grew up on five card stud and capped limit mahjong.
In 2021 my buddy Ned told me to play some cards at stones before I retook my oral exam at uc Davis; so I went to play 1/2 NL and later found out about $4-8 O8, then stones started running PLO and I played it somewhat but had to put in more reps to develop my own style and tighten my understanding. First trip to Vegas was 1/2 plo at wynn and did well. Later found out about poker atlas and saw 80-160 at Resorts world so just went there and played - still remember it was w Andrew Yeh, Gerhart, Todd Brunson, 7-11 Kevin, and mustache. There was Don Schiflett's 8-16 game at RW too and I played that a lot. I just wanna make it. I like mix, and especially PLO cuz they are more mathematical; plus I wasn't good at NLH - I had a thing for AJo; used to squeeze huge and triple barrel often.

I would say that deep down seeing this non-NLH part of the poker community resonates with my childhood, which is filled with stud.

Childhood impact is very huge. I can see in a couple years, Thomas Hartman's three sons will all become scientists; Marcelo's kid is going to be a right winger and destroy the left backs from all over the world; and that's why I have no hesitation staking Davin Anderson's son in poker despite Davin sending me texts that he wants no interaction of me with his son cuz I'm deemed to be bad influence. You can't escape from who you are. (isn't this a rounders quote?) So in gambling I grew up on stud and mahjong (oh I found out about holden via espn when I was in Kansas for high school in 2013, recalling Ryan riess winning the main on espn n YouTube); and in academia I grew up being very curious on medicine, gerontology, string theory, so it's just natural progression of things. At the end of the day, I LOVE gambling.
