Donald J. Trump (For everyone else except Victor)
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
I guess if it's following the nazi playbook, we will eventualy get the creation of department that is effectively a secret police and secret homeland intelligence gathering arm soon, and encouragement for people to rat out anyone who doesn't like Trump and his policies? Or more generally, are 'enemies of the state'. Or basically retool FBI and Homeland Security for this purpose.
Or maybe that's a little too far for even Trump this early? I would guess when his popularity rating declines cos no c
I think this is a tough prediction. Do you need to spy on lambs before you slaughter them? The Nazis had to deal with SPD dead enders and others with strong ideological convictions. Those people, though they failed, were made of something different than the smarmy, soft, super cynical politicians we have who not already have enough money not to care but can be bought by whoever and would never risk anything for anyone other than themselves. The Nazi opposition had to be accounted for. There were like 20 attempts on Hitler. We, however, don't have leaders. We have spokespeople for concentrated capital who tell us they feel our pain while they are giving it to us without the courtesy of Vaseline. We don't have a resistance. There really is no Left and those on congress who say they oppose Trump don't really object to most of what he is doing. They were only worried he was going to spoil the grift and that his patronage network would displace too many of them at the trough. These guys in the Whitehouse now can do whatever they want. Why would you assemble some hillbilly Gestapo when all your opposition will ever do against you is type in all caps on Twitter?
However, reality is not always seen as such and maybe Trump et. al are as paranoid as they come across. I always thought the way it would happen would be through ICE. Like the definition of who an American citizen will get continually narrowed until it's like if you don't believe in Trump you are definitionally not American, you have no rights, and if you actually complain or do anything against Trump some steroid eating masculinity crisis in an ICE uniform can show up at your door and take you away to the bay of Guantanamo. The technical surveillance infrastructure is obviously already in place. If they started empowering ICE or something other goons with it I don't see why they would say they were doing it.
good time to remind people ITT that the Patriot Act is dead thanks to Trump.
The PA was an actual piece of fascist legislation, crafted and voted by everyone (except one: Feingold, a democrat senator, was the only vote against).
and it was up for re-re-re-confirmation in 2020, trump threatened a veto, neither party had enough will to play it through (there was COVID and so on), and it expired.
Trump is a bully and likes to pick on targets he perceives as weak and then his followers like to get on social media and forums and revel in his bullying but they resort to these "why are you being mean to me?" tactics when they are bullied back

You're right that it was fascist, but I doubt it meets your crying definition of fascist that you used earlier today.
And 67 people in Congress voted against it.
I know, even though what you wrote was wrong, you're going to say by "everyone" you of course just meant in the Senate and you weren't wrong.

.
it was blatant fascism, in the actual sense:
filled to the brim of authoritarian, violent & unconstitutional abuses of unalienable rights.
fascism is the extralegal use of state violence to accomplish whatever "superior goal" the leaders decided can trump individual unalienable rights.
I am about to invest in 5 million pennies and keep them in a 50 gallon barrel in my garage. The downside potential of this investment is 0.
What do you think?
You are now, or at least were able to get most pre 1982 pennies for a penny or damn near. But just like how all currencies have worked over the last few centuries, at some point you wont.
If anything, its fun to hoard massive amount of copper pennies instead of throwing them into a coinstar. Now I might as well keep the zinc ones.
Trump says he has directed US Treasury to stop minting new pennies, citing rising cost
Maybe this redic investment choice will pay off before i get copper poising.
How did everyone ITT celebrate gulf of America day?

Of course, this means we'll have to make more nickels, which cost substantially more money than pennies do
Making pennies costs less for the government than it would cost for the consumer (it would never be businesses) to implement a rounding tax (it has to round up)
Of course, this means we'll have to make more nickels, which cost substantially more money than pennies do
They aren't going to ramp up the production of nickels - nickel production has dropped significantly for obv reasons.
Businesses can earn on their spread on the roundups while more customers and business adopt cashless transactions. Our cash transactions aren't going to increase with the removal of pennies.
...And the rest will be sure to take their useless pennies in their ash tray and couch cushions to their local coin cashing machines so that the coinstar owners can sell them to dealers to sell them on ebay for a redic fee and begin the numismatic collecting of the next generation and that will be that. But more importantly, if anyone wants a penny for the price of nickel's worth, let me know.
I'm not a fan of what trump embodies as a whole, but I am a huge fan of getting rid of pennies and nickels as well.
They are miniscule amounts of money and they require scarce natural resources which should not be consumed if unnecessary.
I'll give his administration credit for an initiative I support even if I think he's dangerous as a whole. The world isn't all black and white.

Does it surprise you that Trump had one single idea you think is good?
Getting rid of pennies is great.
Nickel needs will remain the same.
If this is controversial, people are ******ed.
Canada stopped using pennies about 15 years ago. Rounding to the nearest 5 cents is very easy. 1.02 rounds DOWN to 1.00
It's no adjustment at all. Even homeless people didn't want pennies.
It always feels ridiculous in the states when you get a bunch of pennies in your change.
I'm a cash consumer for 95% of my transactions. And I'd be perfectly fine with getting rid of dimes and nickels too. They're basically little pieces of metal gravel.
nickels are so useless too. I usually just toss them on the ground. Even dimes are getting there but they are quite small so easier to carry around

That makes a lot of sense. Probably a better prediction than mine.
I wonder if the Adams dismissal is about keeping information from coming out in trial ... all that foreign actor business?
Trump signs order shifting US back toward plastic straws
One of his explanations: "They explode."
Trumpers, do you think these words are a reasonable statement for a reasonably well-functioning adult to say?

If you're opposed to Trump then don't chew on all these kongs of mass distraction his administration is tossing. Imagine if Trump said we are annexing Canada and no one even talked about it. It isn't hard to do.
And let's not congratulate Trump for also breathing oxygen. This is a time to declare who you enemies are. The MAGA people get that - it's why they won. Your enemy doesn't get props for being right here and there, incidentally. Bernie didn't know that his "friend" Biden had a genocide in him. If Bernie had treated Biden like a proper enemy it wouldn't have mattered what Biden had in him.

But it doesn't. In corporate America, $1.02 rounds down to $1.05.
If you give a coffee can filled with pennies to a homeless person in America, I guarantee that person will take it. They would be happy to go to the nearest coin kiosk in a grocery store and cash it in for $70 or $80.
I'm not saying pennies shouldn't be removed from circulation, but the reasons you gave aren't good ones.

well then change it so you can get rid of pennys.... It needs to be even. or skip straight to rounding to the nearest .10
Canadas already getting rid of the nickel and you losers have PENNIES. come on this is 2025 inflation is 10x since you were born
Bussed migrant caravans to America so they can steal jobs in the drug-trafficking business through DEI initiatives while sustaining themselves on a diet of dogs and cats.
After lunch (pizza, obviously) I cried in an unmanly beta-manner while reading CRT poetry before collecting my paid actor Soros-paycheck, and then I went to work in the deep state to get people to vaccinate themselves and pay a carbon tax, which will eventually allow us to install a shadow government which will do evil things like not peddling meme-coins and have a president which doesn't yell hysterically at popstars.
