Donald J. Trump (For everyone else except Victor)
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Trump hints "we could do that" when asked to shut down the IRS.
He trolled the new IRS hires that are allowed to carry guns, saying "we're moving them to protect the border, since they already have guns".
IMO there's over an 80% chance the IRS will be dissolved in lieu of a 14% GST.
So as a new mod, you are OK with posters insulting other posters because of who they support. That's good to know,
My number one rule would be.
Don't take things so seriously. This is the internet, not real life.
And Mods, get a life and stop trying to police every little bit of banter between grown adults. So, someone's feelings might get hurt. Who cares?
I get abused everyday on here and I don't complain about it, I just laugh it off.

I gave an example. If you want to call that a previous price than a correct price, feel free. Either way, the consumer will pay the new difference.
if your view that merchants are going to change their prices so rather than items ending with a post tax price of .01, .02, .06, and .07 and being rounded down, costing them 1-2 cents, they will change the price so it ends in .03, .04, .08 and .09 so it is rounded up and they gain 1-2 cents?
this will not happen.
and of course if this is your fear, customer buys 2 items, and now the price ends up different and it's rounded down.
insane take.
go brandon!

I tried to explain to you that there is no need at all to change prices , it's all about exclusively the final total the customer has to pay.
B2B stays identical, those aren't cash payments ffs
pretty much this

trump's second term feels more like restarting a game at a save point after losing. it's his first term, played again, and now he knows where all the bosses are waiting and how to exploit their weaknesses. much worse for democrats than if he'd won in 2020.
I didn't read the article but this is way, way off base. Trump didn't really have an agenda his first term and look at all he is doing now. I buy into the theory, put forth by both sides during the campaign, that Trump's heart really isn't into it this time around. So what he's done is just delegate to all the billionaires (and their crazed minions) who gave him campaign money, just letting them run everything. This totally different than his first term. He was reading that whole ethnic cleansing manifesto and we all know he didn't write that.
So goes my hope that Trump would betray even those who funded him and just keep the power close to himself in order to be petty and essentially do nothing, not risk anything that would tarnish whatever he thinks is his legacy is. He's actually loyally doing everything asked of him by the big donors, these repugnant racist parasites like Musk, Adelson and Thiel.
meh, I don't even agree with that
Trump just wants to be the top dog. Nothing more, nothing less. If he gets big money from repugnant donors he doesn't care. They can be as repugnant as they want as long as they submit to him. He's not really smart enough to realize they just play him, though.
Same with his base. White supremecists? Nazis? Who cares as long as they pledge fealty.
One of the differences this go around is he feels even more invincible. He packed the court with loyalists and they have given him complete immunity. He's untouchable and he knows it.
The **** hasn't even begun to start.

credit/debit payment also stays the same. if you want to penny pinch (pun intended), for anything ending in 3, 4, 8, or 9, pay with plastic, and pay cash for anything ending in 1, 2, 7, 8.

So cash payments will be rounded and non-cash will still be to the hundredth? So, "That will be $126.48 card or $126.50 cash, please" at the register everyday? Go Brandon!

He bilked his supporters for several billion 2 days before being sworn in, so yeah, he'll take it where he can get it and it's pretty easy to get. HN is probably buying the "dip" at $15 now.
I apologize for bringing up the penny thing.
It is totally inconsequential and the discussion around it is stupid.

I'm surprised he even cares about the grift now. He can just have Elon re-route treasury payments directly to his bank account.
this 100%
by nature, those who want to discuss politics online in their free time on a poker message board are not going to be representative of a typical supporter
it's the epitome of self selected sample bias
Sure, we have been hearing about these mythical non-MAGA conservatives since 2016.
They have collectively made themselves politically irrelevant since Trump become won the GOP primaries, had a brief wake up right after the 2021 6th January attacks and are at present day more politically irrelevant than ever, since they have pretty much no representation Trump's circle or in GOP leadership.
It is also a moot point, because the political topic of debate isn't what hypothetical old-school conservatives think about the current political climate, they are not currently in charge of the US' executive branch and they are certainly not in charge of the current ideological climate of Trumpism nor the GOP.
The political topic of debate is what the person who has been the ideological leader of the GOP for 9 years is up to and what he does as the currently elected president of the US. And it needs a debate, because what he is up to doesn't seem clear to anyone, least of all himself.
Literally no one said pennies shouldn't be taken out of circulation. Some just think the, "Uh, my life is too hard having to deal with pennies in my pocket" is a ******ed reason.
pennies serve no purpose, they cost more to produce than they are worth
many people don't even want their pennies when they get change and leave them on the table - at casinos, i regularly see vouchers for pennies discarded rather than cashed in
many countries have gotten rid of their version of pennies and none have gone back to it
it's wholly unnecessary

My understanding is that main argument against getting rid of the penny is that there would be a "rounding tax" on cash transactions, which would be borne disporportionately by the poor.
I'm not convinced that such a tax would be particularly significant, but in any case, that's the argument.

it's a poorly thought out argument.
if it ends in 1,2,6,7 it rounds down. if it ends in 3,4,8,9 it rounds up. it's net neutral.
it's people making up problems.
