Trump 2nd term prediction thread
So, looks like Trump not only smashed the electoral college, but is looking on track to win the popular vote, which seems to be an unexpected turn of events, but a clear sign of the current temperature in the country and perhaps the wider world.
Would be interested to hear views on how his 2nd term will pan out from both sides of the aisle - major happenings, what he's going to get done, what he's not going to get done, the impact of his election on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, whether his popularity will remain the same, wane, or increase, etc.
A bit of an anemic OP, I know, just interested to hear people's thoughts now that the election uncertainty is over.
It's a mix. Voters have expressed a preference for someone who is a troll and a buffoon. That said, you of course are correct that not all of his supporters voted for him because he is those things. Some voted for him for other reasons. Those other people are tolerant of or mildly amused by his trolling and buffoonery, but would not cite those things as affirmative reasons why they voted for him.
Oh he is Buffon but he said he would close the border and deport criminals
The other side said let’s as many as in as that want to come in
And the other side nominated a Buffon as well
I know I was wrong that he would be better for Canada but I still get why folks voted for him
8 days in and we have our first legit constitutional crisis on hand. I have to admit, this took longer than I expected.
Illegally purging the IG's to hide the corruption. And now pausing federal funding w/o congressional approval.
I have a couple of developers who escaped Russia that work for me that say this is EXACTLY how Putin consolidated his power. Step by step.
I guess we'll all sit back and allow the media to divide us while we watch this happen. Pointing fingers, saying one side is overreacting, etc... and creating all sorts of warped false equivalencies. Every day I wake up and I'm amazed at how easily it is to manipulate people, and form alternate realities that don't allow either side of the political aisle to have rational discussion anymore.
We're rkd... fkd... but we're there and there seems to be no way out to get us on the same page to see the truth together.
Here's an example of how Republicans play these things now... they literally just invent new realities (fyi, this has never happened before and it's clearly against the constitution).
-----
Republican leaders are so far defending the move.
“I think that's a normal practice at the beginning of administration, until they have an opportunity to review how the money is being spent,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters Tuesday morning.
“We'll see kind of what the extent of it is, and … what they intend to do in a more fulsome way. But for now, I think it's just, it's just kind of a preliminary step that I think most administrations take,” Thune continued.
---
No, it's not normal. And no, it's never happened before.
I feel bad for Americans, what have you got to put up with for 5 years... or however long these shysters can keep their grubby hands on the driving wheel.
It's a bad time for America, now the super-rich grifters like Trump and his cronies seem to be no longer content to shear the sheep, but now want to skin it.
Posted it in the other thread, diebitter.

Over/under on when the first political opponent falls off a balcony?

Thanks dude. I never read up on Project 2025 as I assumed it was a far-right wet dream, but will look into it now.
You guys are heading for civil insurrection, is how this is starting to feel.

There's going to be a **** ton of violence . His legions are going to do really bad things now that they know he'll just pardon them.
Bad things like what, exactly?
Trump pardoned the Jan 6th crowd because it was tied to his own claims about a rigged election.
Trump isn't going to hand out pardons for random thuggery around the nation.
so, from a quick skim on the BBC, it would be:
- close down the Dept of Education
- close down or severely change the nature of the FBI
- make all federal organisations become under direct control of president
- fire anyone in the civil service that doesn't have proven loyalty and replace with people with clear loyalties to president
- ban of abortion nationwide
Wow and I thought you'd just have to put up with being institutionally grifted for 5 years. This is much more sinister. Could get out of hand real fast. America is starting to feel a bit like its heading to Stalinville.
You poor bastards.
Again, what specific bad things do you think they are going to do?
Jailing political opponents. Mysterious deaths of other ones. Disrupting elections. Then they'll go after the press. Then anyone that voices disagreement with der fuhrer. There will be a complete purge of the agencies like fbi, etc. To aggressively act against anyone that voices any opposition. And when the official folks don't the unofficial will and never have any consequences.
Just look at russia.

The sweeping buyouts are being offered to “make sure that all federal workers are on board with the new administration’s plan to have federal employees in office and adhering to higher standards,” a senior administration official told NBC on condition of anonymity.
🙄
Bye bye medicaid.

These sentences that start with Trump are wild.
You don't think Trump supporters beating cops with flagpoles and fire extinguishers is thuggery because it's "tied to Trump's claims" and therefore are worthy of a pardon. Amazing.
