the only way that this is a horrible trade for Wash is if they extend him. Otherwise, it’s a low 5th Rd pick ffs.

Yes they have to pay him $17m, but that’s manageable with a cheap QB. IMO they still need to draft or sign a second WR and then they have Deebo as a gadget guy. Of course there’s a chance he’s a reduced version of himself but it’s worth a risk

we already know that Deebo is a reduced version of himself

WAS could've found ways to spend $17mm in their WR room more judiciously

it's bad process for me

Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery. He was never an elite WR.

I don't think a 750 rc yd and 5 rc td season is out of the question for him.

If that’s all 17 million gets you is problem

DeVonta was blocked by multiple first rounders his sophomore year

All three of those guys were in the same college recruiting class, though, and Smith was older than the other two. So being behind them at Alabama was significant cause for concern.

If he can stay healthy, I would argue he has more longevity than physical freaks

Physical freaks tend to have more longevity because they're still NFL athletes after their decline begins.

Right. We might be singing a different tune if he didn't come off as such a little bitch boy when he wasn't getting the ball.

Liga is right. It is bad process. He's already going to be the number 2 receiver automatically, so why not try finding that talent in the draft?

That $17 million could be spent on one of the defensive free agents that Washington actually needs.

I think he needs to be the #3 tbh and then add value as gadget runner and return guy

I’m not a huge fan of his tbh and always thought he was overrated a little, so I’m not sure why I’m defending the trade, I just think it’s worth a shot on a 1yr rental and they have a huge amount of cap space

if i'm the decision-maker in WAS's FO and my team and i made the decision to spend around this amount of money in the WR FA market...

then (going off spotrac's market value estimate) i'm targeting both Slayton ($15.8mm) and Westbrook-Ikhine ($3.9mm) and attempting to add them to my WR room

i'm also using pick #79 or #147 on a WR/TE (after using pick #29 and #61 on defense/defense or defense/oline // oline/defense)

Smith will likely be a great football player and productive longer than AJ can mask his crappy routes.

I bet Deebo scores 10 touchdowns next year. Remember Randy Moss's last year with the Raiders? Lame numbers with bogus situation but he was still one of if not THE most scintillating athlete in the league. Next 3 years ... 50 touchdowns. If Deebo is a pure cancer attitude then he'll bring failure with him, but he's got a big shot to explode into the next level playmaker he has demonstrated he can be.

If $ is close to being equal then I don't see how taking on 2 guys that are certified mid at best is better than taking Deebo.

imo Slayton is a better WR than Deebo at this point in time

i love the upside dart throw at Westbrook-Ikhine

We'll see. I like Deebo to have a better year than both of them though.

Liga, what are your thoughts on Higgins being tagged again?

I always wonder how the player feels about tagged over a long term deal and if it could have any effect on them.

JOE made it clear over the last several months that signing Tee to an extension is a priority. the FO is working on a long-term deal. the tag, in a way, was expected. remember that Tee changed agents a month or two ago (he and Chase have the same agent now) to assist in streamlining the process

Duke and ownership are really under the gun. leadership need to complete both Tee and Chase's deals by 3/12 (preferably by 3/10) to provide clarity on how they'll be able to attack FA

Philly give Saquan an extension pretty much for the feelz it seems. Am sure, like most Howie deals, the structure will be more team friendly than the headline sounds - interested to see the detail

Probably to free up some money for Baun or whoever.

I'm curious about the $15M in performance bonuses.

Players are terrible evaluators of talent and especially terrible at knowing when someone who used to be good is washed. Prob some psychological thing where they don’t want to admit to themselves that they’re washed.

I think he meant incendiary.

I don't think Pete Carroll would want to have anything to do with Rodgers. He's already kinda distanced himself from Russ, I can't see him thinking a 41 year old QB is a good idea. They are probably more interested in someone that can be a starter for at least the next 3-4 years.

My guy Sam Hubbard retiring.

Big deal for Crosby. Tbh I hadn’t had him down as an extension candidate

Good for him though. I guess when you’re about the only world class player in your club it makes getting paid easier

Rodgers to Vegas would be nothing. Vegas is going to suck next year and won't be good for at least a few more years.

Why any team would actually want Rodgers at this point is baffling, but it should tell you something that mostly bad teams seem to be most interested.

The open disrespect to Godgers ITT is appalling. You people should be ashamed of yourselves.

New Jaguars general manager James Gladstone looks like every NFL owner’s great grandnephew. He looks like he just ordered employees at the NIH to email him “five things that made you hype today.” He looks like someone an NFL player would beat the **** out of after mistaking him for Ben Solak. He looks like he believes the future of global economics lies in Queefcoin. You get the idea.

...

"I'm going to calibrate my own mode of operation to the Jaguars' current mode of operation. One person changing — rather than a large group changing — in the immediate mode is going to be a little bit more efficient and less disruptive. I think adaptability is certainly a key trait that any leader or person in this space is going to have to embrace, and that's one I look forward to deploying so that our entire group actually sees that in action."
