I understand the point that, if the country I'm in starts rounding up and killing Jews, and I escape, and country after country won't let me in, Israel will. That was super important in 1948 and it's still not nothing. But, as a Jewish person in the USA in 2024, I think, on the whole, Israel probably makes me less safe.I'm not particularly worried about that. I'm very safe.
Imagine a world where people listened to Jews about how they felt. And didn't tell them how they feel.
Amazing, isn't it.
Good Share Micro.
If that was true and the totality of it, everyone on this board would be behind Israel imo.

I dont think that's right
The principle opposition to what netanyhau is doing is because of collective punishment and destruction/dispalcement of the people of gaza (and west bank, lebanon etc).
I think chez is right about that. Hamas is not Gaza or all Palestinians. There is no unlimited right to kill completely innocent people - children included - just because there is an enemy that wants you and everyone like you dead. They have to want to do the harm you are trying to prevent and capable of it. The justification for destroying Germany and Japan so completely was not just about what they wanted to do, but what they were capable of doing and how genuine the threat of losing the war was.

It's hard to say what the principle opposition is - opposition to collective punishment is part but not all of it and maybe not even the largest part of it. People see Israel as a relentless regional bully backed by the West who's valued Palestinian lives far less than other lives for a long time, and its actions have matched its words. It's very fascistic.
Historically, crushing your enemies completely has worked a lot better than appeasement to achieve lasting peace with those looking to eradicate your people and race.

Thankfully, many people don’t share your level of complacency.

It is true and everybody should be behind Israel. The October 7th attack was supposed to be significantly bigger than it ended up being. There was supposed to be a second much bigger wave out of Gaza. Hezbollah had planned to send 30k terrorists into Israel. They wanted to penetrate into the heart of the country and kill as many Jews as possible.
did Bibi and Biden have bad childhoods? every American or Israeli leader throughout history murdered orders of magnitude more children than Sinwar ever even dreamed of murdering.

All I'm saying is that just because you had a bad experience doesn't give you the right to kill innocent people. I'm shocked people support this idea.
who's saying that?
Almost no one in Gaza was an adult before it was controlled by Israel. Only like a quarter were adults when Hamas took power. What do you expect people growing up under those conditions to think of Israelis? How do you expect them to ever think differently about Israel? These problems are so obvious that I think the only realistic people on the right are people like Luciom wh
The conditions in Gaza were not as bad as the media would let on. Most people were perfectly happy with their lives. A certain percentage of these people simply wanted Israel wiped off the map regardless of their living conditions. Many Gazans worked in Israel and reported having a good experience with the Israelis. There are Jewish owned businesses in the West Bank that employ Arabs. The only reason a Gazan may hate Israelis is because it was taught in their schools and at Hamas summer camp.
What they are saying is that they support the "Palestinians" right to resist. This resistance includes the killing of innocent people. It sounds to me like there is support for people like Sinwar just because he went through a bad time as a kid. This is wrong thinking. Sinwar and his ilk have only brought more misery to their people. No one should feel sad that he has been eliminated. If you are going to fight back at least have a chance to win. Certainly don't target innocent people like these terrorist thugs did.
