President Donald Trump
I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?
So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at
Make America Grate Again
Probably gonna be a circuit breaker day
Nice work Jabba the Fat
A tiny french Island which exported one cargo of fish to the US in 2024 was hit with the highest tariffs, 50%.
I think calling Trump's policies "broad protectionism" is questionable. Someone somewhere spent 3-4 minutes on compiling this list of tariffs (and that is being generous), and through the layers of incompetence, corruption and lack integrity that is the Trump administration it has been filtered to look like policy.
I know MAGA won't get onboard with this idea, but if you want to accomplis
Broad was generous and more of a description of what Trump is trying to do. Even if he did that properly it would likely lead to an economic disaster. The way he’s actually doing it even more so.
PURPOSELY tanking the entire economy
anyone besides Putin and ****ing idiot MAGATs happy about this?
Cockwomble doubling down in response to China.
Yep, stock market collapse incoming. Apple will lead the charge imo.

America
Great recession
Again
In UK news -
"Era of cheap goods for Americans appears to be over"
"JP Morgan lifts global recession odds to 60%"
Russia was one of the only exemptions from tariffs. There are still some remaining sanctions, but there's now an incentive for corporations to setup passthrough entities in non-tariffed regions like Russia to make money.
So in addition to pissing off everyone but Russia, we've given companies a large incentive to invest in Russia.
RIP brokerage account
We're no longer having fun. I want off Mr. Trump's Wild Ride.
Likelihood this idiot starts a random war soon as a distraction?
Absolutely nothing is off the table.
Drafters probably assumed there would still be decorum in the future and there wouldn't be anti american hacks who want to loop hole the constitution for the purpose of consolidating power
Drafters probably assumed the dummies wouldn't be cheering for something so blatantly anti american
I understand your points but there isn't anything quite as American as ****ing around with democracy. It's just that they usually reserve the worst of it for foreign countries.

It is kind of fun finding out which ones of the idiots were just naive about what a trump presidency would be like and which ones are genuinely evil mfers.
hmmm......
I'm guessing he's gonna start waging war on the fed. It's highly unlikely they drop rates given today's job report and the fact that inflation is still higher than they want.

ICE raided a roofing company in Washington State and kidnapped 37 roofers.
I hope everyone who voted for Trump has a roof leak and no one will fix it.
I don't think there's any goal here in trump's mind. He runs our country like he's in seventh grade trying to punish all the kids that make fun of him. He isn't capable of thinking any other way.
Eh, there may be a goal, but I don't think there is a secret goal that is different than the goals that Trump has mentioned. Trump's views about U.S. manufacturing seem lodged in the 1950s and 1960s. And at some point after he became a public figure, the view that other countries were taking unfair advantage of the United States ossified in his brain.
That's about it.
It's a huge strategic mistake in the argument about Trump's economic actions to just let people argue about tariffs in the abstract. These actions now executed as they have been are so transparently harmful and idiotic, you have to be some combination of brain dead, complete cult member, or troll to be either defending them or engaging in the misdirection about how sometimes tariffs might be good.

With bretton woods you couldn't have systemic large trade deficits because there was no free trading of currencies.
That made mercantilism or at least an obsession against trade deficits reasonable, under those conditions.
Then after BW there was a transitory period of time during which very very significant unbalances built up with Germany and Japan, which they attempted to solve or reduce with the Plaza Accords.
For people in business but with no clue about macro, it's typical to get stuck in what explained economic reality around you from your 20s to your 40s
