It is actually much messier than this. I think American black culture being very distinct from anywhere in Africa is way more important than melanin concentration. Although this was probably more true a few decades ago before American culture, especially black American culture, had been exported to the rest of the world as completely as it has now.
I grew up in a very diverse upper middle class California suburb (real diversity, not progressive diversity which just means no white people) and there was a few Africa African kids, who pretty much all hung out with the Asian and Indian kids (who were much more culturally compatible), and mostly avoided the black American kids (of all shades).
Shocked to learn that Kelhus grew up in an affluent white suburb where people don't like African-Americans.
Or actual humans as human shields. Why did Hamas keep the hostages? It gave Israel cover to keep bombing and fighting. It gave global sympathy for them to continue chasing Hamas. It gave a rallying cry to Israelis (we won't stop until they are home, we won't give up on them). Why not just release them, mostly women and children?

If they had simply released them to a third party (UN perhaps) it would have been near impossible for Israel to keep its high-enough support for the war.

and as soon as Israel stopped their shooting for a few days, they released all the non-soldiers they could find in late Nov 23.

No. 'Prisoner of war' has a specific meaning under the Geneva Convention, conferring specific rights. This wasn't that, it was just mass hostage-taking. And Hamas have no more time for the Geneva Convention than the Israelis have for the ICC at The Hague.

Some people are just hateful and do not want peace or compromise. That is the fact of Palestinians in Gaza. They have chosen that path where other "oppressed" people do not. It's also true of a good number of Israelis (including Palestinian Israelis who want nothing to do with the snakes in Gaza), but any objective analysis recognizes that Gaza is a broken place full of militant hate without a foundation and without a way out. They are a deeply sick society. When men, women and children cheer for mass civilian slaugther and terror, they are sick. That is objectively true. Israel has some of these, but they are a minority, where the large majority in Gaza love seeing bodies of young women who did nothing but attend a music festival being paraded half naked through the streets as a trophy.

I didn’t know Auschwitz allowed people to get work permits into Nazi Germany and take back money, had an independent government structure ruled by a Jewish political party, had a growing population, had the support of international institutions, didn’t have gas chambers, and on and on.

Even if you’re a relativist you don’t have to be committed to that, unless you’re a very particular kind of relativist that relativizes morality to the perspective of the victors. (not people named victor but the winners of history)
