No financial advisor would suggest liquidating 80% of your portfolio based on political swings. And Warren Buffet advises lay people to buy and hold index funds for the long run.
I’m not being flippant or trying to win a forum point or insult you. I’m being as genuine as I can. You (nor I) don’t have the market knowledge to make a trade of that magnitude and are destined to lose if we are regularly making moves like this. Unless your investments are like 10k and you are way behind, but if this is your retirement you are gambling with I’d highly recommend seeking out professional advise.

That’s right, there is nothing in the charter that requires the PM to have a seat. Canadians elect parliament. Parliament elects a PM. There is nothing undemocratic about this. If the elected parliament wishes to, it can vote down the thrown speech of carney if it gets to that.

It doesn’t prevent Putin from continuing to attack as he is today, yesterday, tomorrow. Perhaps by paying this extortion fee to the Americans trump will manage to get a toothless ceasefire with Putin without security guarantees so Putin can violate it again when he regroups like last time - but even the terms of that are a huge range of possibilities. Regardless, Zelenskyy wasn’t the one to not sign it, he was kicked out when your guy threw an embarrassing tantrum.

The simple fact is that Putin has been the aggressor for 3 years. He can stop the war whenever he wants. In fact he probably thinks it is FANTASTIC that the US is stopping aid to ukraine, that the US is attacking its closest allies economically etc.

I have no idea why you think "minerals agreement" = "magical peace deal that has no chance of Putin attacking". It's an idea so hilariously far-fetched I don't know what to say. Having ukraine sadly give up their mineral wealth to the US bullying them might be a move of desparation to keep the despicable Trump on his side and might be part of a path to peace. But it isn't peace. And signing it doesn't end the war.
You can't possibly prove that Putin doesn't attack if Trump won. I thought you were against reading the mind of Putin, now you magically know his mind once again?
Honestly, been feeling pretty emotional about the coverage of the tariffs. It's just so ****ing unnecessary. Ya know, my son is a dual citizen, US and Canada because he was born in the US when I was a professor there. I love Canada of course, but I also have always wanted the US to be the shinning city on the hill that it promises to be. And for decades of political awareness, I'm often critical of specific actions of the US (example iraq war) while still appreciating the pax americana era and certainly not wanting to replace it with china or russia etc. But this week has been hard. Friends don't stab friends in the face like this. Neighbours shouldn't do this to nightbours. Allies shouldn't abandon allies. A lot of the specific policy details are due to the unique personality of Trump, but there are also sweeping political times in isolationism in the US and its decline, and it's just sad to see this decline manifest so sharply hurting us and hurting ukraine.

Remember a month ago when this exact same thing happened and everyone backed down within a day?
This is the same message Zelensky has been projecting the entire war.
