In other news
In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.
Trump said it was due to DEI and you are in this thread carrying his water, so explain how hiring non whites can lead to airplane crashes?
Thats the simple straight forward question in which this all culminates. Explain how hiring non white licensed ATC (DEI) causes crashes?
If you can explain this without referring to skin color then you might be greatest genius of our times
The only way you could account for DEI contributing to the crash is if any of the standards that are required for Blackhawk pilots was lowered so a women could get in than you have an argument. No one can show us were this happened at all yet. So for Trump to say this is disparaging the name of a combat veteran that died in service .
It shouldn't be controversial to point out that DEI practices hindered the hiring of qualified ATC personnel and led to system failures.
Building codes, for instance, aren't some lofty ideal for high quality construction. They are the literal bare minimum effort required to get an inspector to slap an, "Ehhhh it'll probably be fine" sticker on your work.
You could have had two candidates who meet the minimum spec, but one has a 1/1000 chance of crashing an airplane based on secondary factors, and the other has a 1/10000 chance of crashing an airplane. If the first guy was black and gets hired specifically because his blackness held more weight on the hiring criteria than the overqualification of the other guy, then DEI created an objectively negative outcome for ATC.
I'm not making any specific claims as to what did or didn't take place with the controller at the helm of the PA crash, but pretending like, "If both are qualified, then DEI didn't matter" ends the argument is just putting your head in the sand.
You had a bunch of white people who claimed they were passed over for ATC positions because of the color of their skin. We also apparently have ATC shortages, so were those people passed on because of their skin color, qualifications, budgetary reasons, racial representation quotas, or some combination of everything above?
"We can't hire any more white dudes until we get some minorities on board" is a very different statement than, "We can only hire one person for this location, so let's just pick the black guy" and that in turn is different than, "Both of these people meet the minimum spec. One guy is possibly more qualified, but the other one is a minority and will help our stats. Again, both meet the requirements, so take your pick."
All of those are problematic, and if any took place, then DEI can be blamed for subsequent ATC failures. The onus is on people to prove it, though. Good luck with that.

The controller should have prevented the crash. Any experienced pilot or controller knows this (except for the TDS "aviation experts" you saw on the news that night). Whether he was trained, pushed through OKC and hired over people that were more qualified is unknown at this time except to the man who was extremely adamant and clearly upset when he said DEI was the cause of the crash.
I wonder if whites ever got hired because they were white and not black even tho some blacks were better ?
Never seem to be a problem before since both were still qualified ?
It seem even if both are qualified it still can be a problem today because they are black or dei ?
Double standard?
I didn't even realize Trump said this, which is basically what I've been saying since day one. The controller never called out the traffic properly, while anti collision alarms were flashing and sounding in the tower. At least his aviation advisors know what they're talking about. I was flabbergasted when I first heard that audio clip.

Radio frequencies are color blind.

A simple test is this: Do you think the news anchor who was a low level officer in the national guard is more qualified to be secretary of defense than the 4 star general he replaced?

Nah it’s all about merits ! 😃
But trump is smart , he will have someone to blame when $h!t hits the fan
I personally would still hold trump accountable because being so smart he should know better but they just don’t see it that way shrug .
I mean, not really. You can't always tell what color someone is with audio only, but you'd probably be right 99% of the time if you got to pick your spots in terms of guessing.
More importantly, two wrongs don't make a right. You don't fix discrimination with more discrimination.

But how it’s discrimination if both are good enough ?
Just set the bar higher then ?
Did they regress qualifications necessities to hire a more « plural » range of employees?

I mean, the relevant question here is why the hell is the president of the US injecting himself into an aviation accident investigation before facts are known, and publicly positing reasons for the crash. Reasons which just magically happen to coincide with his current favorite political talking point.
The only correct response from a political leader is to sympathize with the victims and to encourage people to await the findings of a thorough investigation. After such an investigation you can bring the hammer down if there are people, systems or culture to blame, if that is your political inclination.
Poisoning the well and encouraging baseless witch-hunts to further his political standing is craven, ghoulish and asinine. The role of the MAGA eco-system in all of this is also completely and utterly twisted. As noted earlier, innocent people people have already been caught up in efforts to justify Trump's statement... and it is not like this ecosystem ever offers retractions.
This thread is an excellent example. "You can't prove that what he said isn't true!". Great, now we have contend with the frickin' god of the gaps when debating aviation safety. That'll certainly lead somewhere productive.
There is also the fact that this debate is going to hamper the impact of any conclusion that doesn't gel with the president's statements. Politicians and political appointees will feel pressured to neglect their duty in order for Trump to save face. We also know that Trump supporters and Trump-friendly press isn't exactly big on accepting things that contradict his statements. This isn't even a hypothetical, just look to Sharpiegate. Basically, this farce does not contribute to aviation safety, and might very well hinder efforts to improve it.
Can you close your mouth when you breathe?
On the other hand if it was DEI that contributed to the crash we will likely never know because that would admit that the policy is a failure. A dangerous failure.
And we all know libtards are never going to admit that. Hell would freeze over before that happened.
What do you mean? Trump already said DEI caused the crash

Until you see some of the silly/dangerous **** people do out in the wild.
jeez We didn't think the neighbor kids would kill themselves touching the raw baling wire we strapped on the outside of the trailers for electricity--hell we hadn't even gotten done welding em together yet 😀

General Milley was a 4 star general, he decided it would be better to take the military out of Afghanistan first, before American citizens and other civilians, and if it can't get any worse than that, he decided "it would be better" to leave $7 billion dollars worth of military equipment free for the taking for all of our middle east enemies. A kindergarten would of told you to take the military out last so everyone gets home safe, and take our equipment back even if it takes a month.
Stripes and stars are only as good as the integrity and intelligence of the person wearing them (in other words, they literally don't mean ****).
This is your final warning. I warned you.
Spoiler
if you mention this one more time I'm gonna post a vido of 2 cats on a bbq grill being tended by two tall skinny black guys with the narrator in it saying they're in Ohio (in the states). You're gonna wish you never saw that video..
