Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Benjamin Netanyahu is locked in a fierce battle with Israel’s judicial system after the supreme court blocked his attempt to fire the head of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency.

Amid protests against ministers’ vote to sack Ronen Bar, the top court on Friday froze the decision, with the order remaining in place until the court can hear petitions filed by the opposition and an NGO against the dismissal of the chief of the Shin Bet.

Netanyahu said in a post on X that “the government of Israel will decide” who headed the domestic security agency, writing: “The State of Israel is a state of law, and according to the law, the government of Israel decides who will be the head of the Shin Bet.”

The Shin Bet has been investigating Netanyahu’s close aides for alleged breaches of national security, including leaking classified documents to foreign media, and allegedly taking money from Qatar, which is known to have given significant financial aid to Hamas.

In a letter made public late on Thursday, Bar said his dismissal was motivated by Netanyahu’s “personal interests”. The security chief referred to the conclusions drawn by his agency’s investigation into the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023, which said “a policy of quiet had enabled Hamas to undergo massive military buildup”.

I expected this song and dance again.

The logic you seek to apply would mean that Marc Carney, the current Prime Minister of Canada, is perhaps not Canadian because he left for 10 years.

So what am I, Trolly?

Once again Raffi: my tax dollars are paying for the bombs that are being dropped on refugee camps, it's being done in my name. I have a perfectly legitimate reason to be concerned with what's going on in Gaza.

So NOW you backtrack. A post ago it was "you're Canadian bub"

What nationality am I Trolly? Say it...

I am not sure what nationality has to do with it. you guys, along with Bibi and most Israelis, tell us every day that this is being done in the name of Jews. fwiw, I dont want to agree with that sentiment, and I try to push back at but its possible I am wrong.

Evil genociding bastards

Halevi reported to Netanyahu that the army had hit 1,500 targets in Gaza. Netanyahu angrily replied, "Why only 1,500? Why not 5,000?" Halevi responded that only 1,500 targets were approved. Netanyahu's responded: "I don't care about the targets. Destroy the homes, bomb everything in Gaza."

If only you released the hostages.

by jalfrezi k

Do what we say or we will genocide you.

Yes! release the hostages.

by jalfrezi k

The UN and international community allowing illegal occupation after 1967 was a huge victory.

The Arabs shouldn't have planned their attack. To the victor go the spoils.

by Trolly McTrollson k

lol, of course you do. You're *proud* of that little joke of yours about Muslims getting butchered on an industrial scale. Don't worry, there are plenty more corpses on the way, get your best snarky one-liners ready.

So you don't think they are gonna release the hostages?

by jalfrezi k

Do what we say or we will genocide you.

Release the hostages like you agreed or we will end the ceasefire which was conditioned on you releasing the hostages

by Bill Haywood k

Wut? He explicitly said he would attack people other than the ones holding hostages -- the civilians.

He's ordering the people who don't have the guns -- civilians -- to overthrow Hamas or else.

"tensions will ramp up again" is quite the spin on disarticulated children.

if it was as explicit of a genocidal statement as you are pretending it is you wouldn’t have to carve it up or make up a paraphrase completely wholecloth.

Way to miss the point, bub.

by Victor k

I am not sure what nationality has to do with it.

Because he sees everything according to bronze-age ethnic tribalism. He's genuinely astonished that someone without direct family connections to The Fatherland would care about 200 children getting massacred in Palestine.

by mongidig k

So you don't think they are gonna release the hostages?

What part of "Israel walked away from the deal" are you not getting here? Bibi cares more about continuing the slaughter than he does about seeing the hostages returned.

It’s all Bibi’s fault that Hamas was forced to massacre 1000 people and kidnap 100!

I don't agree with your numbers but yeah, when people break out of a concentration camp I blame those who put them in it.

Israel’s Defense Minister Threatens Permanent Occupation of Parts of Gaza

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened permanent occupation of parts of the Gaza Strip and the displacement of its population if Hamas doesn’t release its remaining hostages, ramping up pressure on the group after ending a two-month cease-fire this week.

I'm sure this will increase the likelihood of saving the hostages and lessen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

by corpus vile k

You said Israel were focused on eradicating innocents, this is a blatant lie from you. I'm not justifying anything I'm telling you the cold hard reality of the situation. Maybe you think Israel should just meekly allow itself to be attacked due to their attackers cowardly using their own people as shields, but Israel obviously won't stand for that, nor should they.

That doesn't mean I'm happy with civilians being killed, it just means I recognise the reality of a sickening situation. And within

There is what ?
A 50-1 ratio of Jews vs the Palestinians killed ?
Let’s say 50% of them are civilians .
If that isn’t eradicating what is your ratio that is unacceptable ?
Oh wait , my mistake, each Jews are easily worth 25 life from Gaza .
So yeah I’m sorry , I’ll wait at least around a ratio of 100-1 before using the word eradicating …..

Only radical believe killing (I should say “winning so much “ ) that efficiently should still be qualified as defensive measures….

P$: I warn them (to go where exactly ?) so not my problem ?
True war hero’s….

I mean when you end up having around the same reasoning like mongidig, might be the time to start asking some questions about where you at presently.
Situations do evolve over time .
Maybe some people are too close from the tree to see the entire “forest of bodies” behind ….

Breaking out of a concentration camp? You realize that prior to Oct 7th, Israel was not in Gaza, right? Are you saying it’s because Israel had travel restrictions on people that were not Israeli citizens and who were from a state that had an extremely hostile stance towards Israel that this makes Gaza akin to Auschwitz? It’s not even akin to the Japanese internment camps fyi.

Yeah, it is interesting that none of the posters that were pretending to be concerned about the hostages seem too upset about Israel violating the ceasefire. Unfortunately it seems like continuing the genocide is more important than saving the hostages for both the Israeli government and many posters in this thread.

"Overthrow Hamas, and we'll allow you to be deported to who knows where!"

What a sick ****ing joke. You cannot tell me Israel is serious about peace if these are the terms they are offering. Overthrow an army of militants and *then* we take your home and send you on a modern Trail of Tears?

Agree.
Israel ask them to risk their live becoming Israel soldiers to overthrow hamas for them , or else you will end up dead .
Great ain’t it .
Die if u do , die if u don’t .

Ps : I’m sure if a normal Palestinian successfully kill a hamas member, his entire family could not be possibly be at risk to be killed as retribution , only mafia does that, not radical terrorist groups ?
But I’m not a specialist , I might be wrong .

by DoyleBrunsonFan k

In case you have a genuine interest in being informed.

Below I’ve linked a NATO report on Hamas’ use of human shields in Gaza. The report predates the current conflict but Hamas’ tactics haven’t changed.

https://stratcomcoe.org/cuploads/pfiles/...

So what if they do?
if you believe all civilians should be considered soldiers fine.
You saw the movie platoon ?
Guess which side you are .

Fatherland? Gtfo, we already have vic and jal to engage in anti Semitic tropes, you're now joining their ranks?

So again should Israel just allow themselves to be attacked? Yet again why are they giving warnings if the focus is to eradicate innocents?
What solution do you have here other than useless moral hand wringing?

hamas did the killing and kidnapping of toddlers and raping and so on, and then their leader announced that oct 7 was in fact a mere dress rehearsal for the main event

they also announced the renewal of their decades long suicide bombing campaign against israeli civilians

note that there's no argument about any of these facts, the pro-hamas people accept that all of this happened and they deal with it by blaming israel

after this, anyone that thought israel would do something other than fight hamas until one side could no longer sustain the fight is just kidding themselves

by mongidig k

The Arabs shouldn't have planned their attack. To the victor go the spoils.

The Arabs weren't planning an attack in 1967. The Israelis were. They'd been planning it for the previous five years under the codename Operation Moked ('Focus') and they'd bought a large and powerful new air force (much too large for the defensive needs of a country the size of Israel) specifically for that purpose. The object was to gain the West Bank for settlement, the Golan Heights for strategic advantage and the Sinai and Gaza as bargaining chips to be given back later while the West Bank and Golan Heights were retained.

The right of conquest has not been recognised as lawful since 1945, in the UN era.

I’m going to guess that you didn’t read the NATO report, don’t have any interest in being informed, and have no intention of having an honest discussion.

There’s just no point in continuing a discussion with someone who doesn’t even have a baseline of context on the conflict. If you want to be emotional without any logical thought, you’ll probably be better received on Twitter or TikTok.
